I am having a problem with this model and I just can't figure it out. I am trying to put treads on the bottomm of these shoes, and right now there are only four polygons to work with. So I am subdividing the bottom of the shoe, in order to get more polys and points to move around. I have also tried using multiple knife cuts, but I still have the same problem. The sides of the shoes start sticking out very weirdly when I do this and I can't figure out how to keep it form doing this. I have included pictures so that people can better understand my problem, and hopefully help me solve it. Thank You for any help in advance!

Check the Hypernurbs weighting on the small vertical edges at the points you have circled.
It looks like they have extra weighting assigned and are 'pulling' the mesh.

Cheers, Al.

I didn't weight the hypernurbs at all though. There is no weight tag assigned to the model at all. Do you have any other suggestions? Could it be something else maybe? Thank You in advance!

The only thing I can think of is that you may have accidentally extruded some edges by a very small amount.

This seems pretty reasonable, if you accidentally create a double extrude and one's offset a bit it can cause the flow of the splines to go wonky pushing them out as you see here.

What I wouldn't give for some NURBs...

In subdivision lies your throuble, in subdivision and triangles on border of bottom surface. Any suggestion for you? Adjust your subdivison of bottom surface, or use Brush tool > Iron (sorry, I have my C4D in Czech and I am not sure) on points of border subdivided area.

I have tried the iron tool and that didn't work I will try to see if I have any extra extrudes that are causing problems. In the meantime any other suggestions are more than welcome. Thank You!

Anytime you have two adjoining faces that don't have the same subdivision you're going to get triangles (or ngons) that will disrupt your mesh.
There really is no need to have that many subd's on the bottom especially if it's hypernurbed anyway for this stylized of a character.

Can you explain why you have that many poly's on the bottom of the foot?

Edit: Oh you want treads...
I would consider using sobpolydisplacement on the bottom or try using a seperate mesh for the rubber sole. This is going to be a little tedious to weight.

I am somewhat new to 3D what is sub-polygonal displacement?, and how do I go about executing it? Thank You for your help!

Anybody here? Are there any other suggestions? Can somebody tell me what sub-poly displacement is?

choose material, go to material editor and check displacement channel options. but it should be rather used in case of low poly models with complex displacement maps (like some shaders or or high resolution displacement maps made with ZBrush).

in your case I would rather suggest to try HyperNURBS Weights, they are relly usefull. and they're simple, too - just select object, go to poly/edge/point mode, select point/poly/edge, press and hold DOT [.] on keyboard, press LMB and try moving left/right. if you would like to have ability to set interactively negative weights, you will have to set up Interactive Minimum in HyperNURBS Weights options in Attribute Manager to -100%.

Thank You for your help lcf. I will try the negative Hypernurbs weighting to see if that will work. I will post and let you know my results.
