hi everyone,

the only reason I'm posting this is to make some comments I've learned...this is a very quick sketch on the wacom (which I've had less than a week) and my first attempt at working with shading etc (I've worked in conventional 2d for years, and now I'm trying this)....

this is very much a new world for me...and I know I can't be the only one, so I wanted to say...

biggest mistake: not having a background to start (working transparent)...adding shading etc...then trying to add some sort of decent background...

biggest lesson learned: layers layers layers, and opacity is your friend!!

sorry if I shouldn't have posted, mods, if it's wrong, yank it...it's fine...I know technically it has lots of flaws..I'm aware of the artistic issues...they aren't an issue with me...it really wasn't intended to be much of anything...

though...I may do something with it now...lol..I don't know.

um...I think this is kinda neat actually. Why don't you keep going and see where it takes you? I like the colours of it.

Only thing I might say is her one eye is a little farther away than the rest of the facial features that are spaced out around eachother...I only mention it because it was a little distracting at first. (I recognize you aren't going for photorealistic here so I apologize if that sounded silly to you. *grin*)

Anyways, show us what you've got! Aren't Wacoms lovely? *sighs dreamily*
Take care,
~Ela~

Hi Ela:)

Thanks so much for a crit! I'm sooo aware of all the issues...and I really appreciate your kindness only pointing out the eye...lol ...and yes, photorealism isn't my thing...but it's probably something I should do a couple of times on the tablet just to do it...

My wacom gets the better of me on most sketches still, but I just started playing with this one. It's funny, I've spent 2 days on this thing, and what I have would have taken me 15 minutes with some chalk and support, and it's not nearly as good....sigh....but it's a learning thing

This is what I ended up doing with it...it just is what it is, I don't know if it'll go anywhere else, the more I do now just seems to make it worse...

have a great day!

It looks pretty good as a beginning, I'd say, I like the style. I think just getting into more details in the face and some darker colors will really help to bring it out.

Good luck!
