Old Friends, is a piece depicting two remnants
of the cold war. The Lockheed S-3 Viking and
the Akula class nuclear submarine.
Trying to find a composition that was dynamic enough for what I was wanting proved to be a challenge. Neither aircraft or submarine look
particularly agile so I chose to render the Vike banking steeply over the sub to give a more dramatic viewpoint.
Both meshes were generated in 3d Studio Max, although the Viking was recently built the
Akula dates back over five years ago.

Superb job on the S-3 and the textures Gareth. Composition works well.

Really like the slight blurring on the wingtips and the wing trails....it gives the plane a sense of speed without having a blurry aircraft or backdrop.

Great work and very realistic.

OUtfreakingstanding, Modeling is excellent, textureing is top notch, although personally I think you could grunge up the S3 even more, those things get absolutely trashed when they have been on float for a few months plus it might feed into your theme, as would a little more wear and tear on the Akula. (this isnt a crit but more of a Q, i think CVW 5 is on the Kitty hawk since 99, Redtails havnt carried the Vike but a hawk on the tail but this is just AR nitpicking) The concept is first rate, composition excellent execution top shelf, five stars. I love it.

I like it very much, especially the S3 plane model.

In terms of looks you're probably right, but looks can be deceiving as the Vike is very manouvrable indeed!
