View Full Version : XSI & Xpress DV 3.5
AlanMc 10-26-2002, 11:10 PM Dear all,
Does anyone have experience using Avid's Xpress DV 3.5?
I am looking at it relative to buying Adobe premier 6.5. What do you think?
Any info would be great, like how the two apps differ. Is the cost of Avid's app justified wrt Premier?
Can it integrate with XSI?
Regards,
Alan.

The thing is that Avid Xpress DV 3.5 works only under Win XP what I know. The Avid Xpress DV 3 does work under W2K
The Premiere 6.5 is now softfware reeltime and using your cpu as the hardware reeltime. You really don't need any hardware card then.
I think the Premiere is just fine if you start to work with editing, avid need hardware like IBM stuff and so on to run ok.
Premiere find card like Studio DV. and you can run that through your dv camera and get out on big screen TV.
The Avid has a lot short cuts and so on, It has more setings for the things you like to make, then what Premiere has.

premiere is more intuitive i think, for example ifyou want to expand a clip you just drag the ends in the timeline, in xpress dv you need to go to trim mode, select the ends then drag.
also in xpress you can just click and drag the clips, instead you have to go to lift mode or extract mode before you can start doing stuff.
so for ease of use i recommend premiere,
although xpress is supposed to be "industry standard"
