I know that AE can convert audio to keyframes automatically using the waveform. This is useful in timing actions in the comp to the music but can it be done in combustion?
If so how?

Thanks.

So far I know, you need trapcode soundkeys to do that in AE.
The plugin does not work in combustion.
As a little workaround you can hold down the alt key while scrubbing in the timeline view.
And because combustion supports one audiofile at a time, I load a mixdown of the audio track into a wave editor and use "find beats and cues" functions to extract the timecodes.

Interesting. After you get the timecodes, do you sync the old fashioned way or is there a way to import the times as keyframes?

Yes all by hand. I take notepad or any other text editor and copy and paste the timecodes into the timefield of a layer marker and if useful add the markers on a solid dummy layer.
