View Full Version : Animation: visual effect - xray
cerip 10-26-2002, 08:36 PM my very first xray vison.. the guy gets hit in a closer shot before.. this was done in aftereffects and maya.. I had some problems deciding where the actual animation of the zoom where to be dictade from though and it was a lot of jumoing bacj and forth.. but went quite smoothly.. the zoom is made up of both an actual animation and a radial zoom blur, does it work.. or does it feel to much?

I think it works really pretty well. my only comment is that the acting seems a little little bit chessey but the zoom works greta:thumbsup:

I think it works great, the zoom in and out are pretty seamless with the live stuff.
Is this for a film, or just an fx test?

its for a student film (dv) so that might explain the acting, or maybe my timeremapping increased the bad acting, since it looks a bit theatralistic when realtime starts again and he falls over in the end :)
the skeleton and surrounding skin model is from an 3dobjects cd btw.

cewl, i've seen this kind of fx somewhere, dunno which movie, think it was one from jet li.
Maybe u could freeze the image when he actualy hits him, and then get into x-ray mode, and see the fracture evolve in slo-mo.
dunno, just an idea :D
very nice stuff

I think you are refering to Romeo must Die

My roommate is a doctor and was looking over my shoulder when I played your animation. She says the x-ray looks really good, except for the fracture itself... it's supposed to be black. I just thought I would let you know.
I think it looks great.

Yup, Romeo Must Die is the movie that obviously inspired this. Great movie, great effect. And great work, cerip!

actually I haven't seen the romeo must die (have to now though).
I might have been inspired unconsciously, since these effects tend to be repeated in here and there.. heard csi (tv) have similiar effects, and the guy who wanted it must have seen it somewhere.. It would have been great if the footage had allowed it to extend the action within the xray portion like suggested!
and I must say thanks for the opinion by a real doc, I didnt think it would pass such a test that good!
