I started on this while taking breaks from the Alley project :)

I cant seem to get a nice realistic shadowing on the planet, and still have realistic clouds using a little bit of luminance. When I turn off the luminance they look crap and so does the planet.I have tried negative lighting but it didnt work satisfactorily, any idea would be much appreciated

hey kiwi, you might try this:

just put a fusion in the luminance channel and then your clouds at the bottom and a colorizer at the top. inside the colorizer you put a lumas shader (make sure to uncheck all highlights). then you can colorize the lumas white on the light side and black on the other side. finally just choose the multiply or darken mixing option to reduce the luminance on the side of the planet that is not lightened. i think that works. :D

Thanks bud, thats a great idea

I know the image is really dark too,I must get out of the habit of adjusting levels at night.

Like this one much better Stu. The lighting brings out more of the details in the ship.

How have you been lately?

I like it, but as much detail as you have on it, it's seems really boxy... which is okay I guess.

I still think space ships should look aerodynamic = ) Even though it's not very practical

Hi Randy thanks

Am having some heart hiccups now as well, thats why I am not around as much.Looks to increase yet as well, but ah hey thats life :D ....thanks for asking bud....hows yourself?

Adrian it is kinda boxy eh.I went for boxy on purpose for a kind of freighter feel for the ship. Most the slim sexy shaped models are fighters and dont look like they can carry much cargo, that and I also wanted to model a freighter :D

looks cool bud! sorry to hear about the heart :( anyhow a thought, it might be quite cool to have a few more window lights on the ship, to give it that sense of scale. also maybe either change the scale of the noise on the light in the background (the star) or make it smaller, as it's a little bit even. but it's looking good :) keep up the good work.
