View Full Version : good shiny silver texture

hey,im trying to get a silver look to part of a model
now i cant get it right ,my rendertree look like this
incidence>scalar2color>invert>colorcorrection>blinn(reflectivity)>
>material(surfce,shadow,phton),on the blinn in the transp/reflec.
tab i changed the V of the reflection HSV to 1 ,i put a grid right
a front of it with constant shader that it color changed to 1 in rgb
so its all white ,and i got one defult light and didnt touch it
any suggestions???

Guy,

a few tips for silver/metal materials in xsi:

1) first you have presets in the NET-VIEW of xsi, it's in the
local library, under materials/metals, just drug and drop one
of the icons to your render tree or onto your model. thats
a good starting point.
2) use some kind of enviroment reflection map, select the model
and aplly from the render module: Shader>enviroment>spherical
and select an image that has high contrast in its colors,
(black and whites, for instance) and play with it's crop, and tiling.
3) shiny metals usually have very bright specular, you can
see the specular on most of the presets, is higher then 1,1,1
sometimes even 5,5,5 or more..

basically it's hard to give an absolute "scheme" for the perfect
shiny slver material, because there are so many parameters,
like the lighting in your scene, the enviroment reflection image you choose, the specular strength in relation to the scene light intensity, and so on.. it's a matter of experimenting and of course
experience..
after you'll get to know all the major parameters that influence
the final result, you'll get there much quicker :)
