Those are very beautiful images and makes me want to play the game even more. I thought I wouldn't get an Xbox 360, but I might for this game.

A couple questions: How long did it take, start to finish to do? And why is it in 3D even though its 2D?

And what kind of classes, if any, do you recommend for budding artists? I mainly do characters, but I want to learn how to do enivronments right so I can have a broader range of talent.

This is just awesome awesome stuff.

I did see some of this stuff on Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/extras/destroyedbeauty/070505_destroyedbeauty_01.x) about a week or so ago and wondered who is was by. I thought some of it might be Feng Zhu, as I know he's done stuff for Epic before. Well either way, it's all looking fantastic and I hope the in-game stuff looks as good as the concepts. :)

Blimey... A staggering amount bof detail, but you can still see the brush strokes! And the lighting's fantastic too!! These are so beautifully painted! They've got to be some of the best environment concepts i've seen!

So how long would one of these take you? And how much and what kind of reference do you use?

And any chance of a step-by-step? That would be rather splendid. Or a CGnetwork reader project perhaps..?

Brilliant! The top pic probably ended up in the 3D forum, cuz it looks 3D, very impressive, the detail especially,although the composition is somewhat symmetrical, i can't fault that, because overall it works very well. I like the mood of the bottom pic better, it has a melacholy feeling, like th eghost ship in the anime film Memories, if anyone's seen that.

HOLY SMOKES thats many replies haha, Thank you for the compliments, I don't remember all the questions, but, yes, I do mostly game concepts, and I'm thinking of maybe some day make my own book (with only me me meeee) but I'll wait until I've become better. Most of these images takes quite some time to make, varying alot tho, sometimes only a couple of days and sometimes a week, These images are also designed by me but sometimes I've gotten art from other people that wil guide me to the right direction, and even screenshots of what the Level designers are working on, and sometimes I get a page of text with a "story" of the place they want me to do, its really inspiring and I enjoy working from text the most (nothing in the way exept for white canvas hehe) these are pretty large images in fullrez, some go up to 9000pixels wide, l often start out doing 3-4 simple sketches before I sink my teeth into the final one. (harder to change those) I'm not really taking advantage of all 9000pixels, at 100% they can look rather scribbly, but i've gotten good practise att nudging out the details for the modelers, it can't be easy to model from something that looks like a buncha brush strokes over eachother.

First of all thanks for posting and sharing the images, in the second image I can tell that it's 2d, but it's still damn good, for the first image it does look 3D, but I remembered the tutorial the Craig Mullins has on goodbrush.com, he shows how he does his digital paintings that is similiar to the ones seen here, and he did a hell of a job too, the reason I posted was that, that you got to do some of the concept artwork for Gears of Wear and they used quiet a bit of this stuff or in areas, I have a article that I read everyday (especially for 3d artist and game artist in general should read) it's GAMEINFORMER ISSUE number 146, and if you don't have it get it, there are some new 3d images of the game in the magazine that's not posted on any site and interviews and tips of them using the Unreal Engine, it seems they stuck heavy to the concept work you've done, and I congrats u all the way on that man, keep up the good work, and for you 3d artist that don't look in the 2d section need to check it out, because there are some powerful artist in there, (and I thought some of you guys knew that already) but let me take a guess at what program you may have used, based on the versiltility on the images, I'm guessing painter is in there some where, I've seen what artist can do with Photoshop but I see extra limits in your image that photoshop won't give you especially at 9000 dpi :D !!!

Oh and I almost forgot, now there are some other artist who use 3d for composition setup and lighting and paint over that, if you look in the 2d section there was a artist that went over that, I wish I remember the artist that did that but it was very smart and fast execution, sorry for the ancient secret being released, but for those 3d artist that are looking to see some of this stuff in 3d, (and I'm not promoting the magazine) but purchase the mag issue 146 of this year, because there is a 10 pages of there work in there plus interviews and production notes

You have some amazing work here, I've been waiting for the game and the xbox 360 to come out since I heard of each. I love the enviorments this game is already showing in its demo work so I guess I have you to thank for that. I'm unsure if you know alot about the game story etc... One question I have about the game is will it be more squad based or will the main character be a lone wolf rambo type of guy.
