i often wonder if texturing is underestimated in 3d. it always looks/ seems as if it was the quickest part of 3d but i think it's the opposite. laying out the uv's nicely is a pretty hard and often difficult task. sure, depends on the model.
but even just the laying out of the uv's is usually a painful task without the texture maps painting itself.

True, but if your methodical, you can UVW the model in stages and piece the texture map together at the end. Takes longer, but is easier.
