View Full Version : Modelling paper/fabric?

I'm pretty fair at modelling good solid objects, but I'm working on a scene now in which I need:

a) Some tatty old posters, complete with curled over corners and the warping that comes with age.
b) An unmade bed (crumpled sheets, etc).

For the posters I figured just a simple plane, and add some noise for the warping. But I don't know how to get the corners to curl smoothly.
As for the bed, I really don't know where to start.

Anyone got some suggestions?

One way that you could get the edges on your poster to curl nicely is by using the bend modifier and adjusting its gizmo and limits until you get the desired effect. as for the bed, maybe some cloth simulation if you have access to reactor or another simulator...

Works a treat.... thanks.

Now if I can just find a relatively simple way of doing the crumpled sheets I'll be set. :)
(For the record, I just tried the same method with the sheets, but it's gonna take way too long, and used way too many bends.)

If you happen to be working in Max5, you can use Reactor to "drop" a plane on your mattress. It'll fold over the edges and corners quite nicely.

Not rich enough to afford new versions whenever they come out.

I'm still using 3.1...
Don't suppose this 'reactor' things comes as a plugin?

try simcloth, it's a plugin and  for free

I didn't understand the reactor technic that LFshade suggested. maybe because i'm a max 4 user (even though it already has the reactor plugin in it)
but for crumpled sheets?
why not using a displacement map?
you can also move some vertix at the egdes of the mattress with soft selection.
