Well I decided to represent Hades, god of hells. For me Hades is struck between his own fate and despair. He isn't a bad god, just an employee of a big familiy, and even bad business has to be done

GREAT TOPIC!
I'll be busy with this one...oh yes I will......consider this a placeholder!

*placeholder*

Koekbakker, great stuff!

Jnurp, I like it, but I think you need to segregrate the two different lightings more...

jnurp
07-15-2005, 05:26 PM
what do you mean?:)

paperclip
07-15-2005, 06:34 PM
Well, it looks as if the blue and red light sources are kind of mixed up, esp. around the nose and brow area. Apart from that, I really like your atmosphere. Very ethereal!

jnurp
07-15-2005, 06:38 PM
yeah, I see what you mean, I'm going to update it
in fact I did only one source of light first and someone suggested me that there was a lack of contrast so I added the red light from under to suggest hell

UPDATED ^^

so here's my second DSF post. I decided I would do Aphrodite and Hera, the goddesses of love and motherhood/marraige, respectively. They are very different but become very interconnected.

This is all I am going to do on this piece. As a delicious piece of irony, as I am working on my rendition of the three fates, my dad calls to let me know that my grandfather has passed away in his sleep. This was not unexpected, he was suffering colon cancer, and was well into his nineties. I guess the scissors have finally snipped his thread.

Here's Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt. My first post in this great forum. Took around 2 hrs in Artrage. Minor reference to the forest.

Tnx for the tip about linking your images Alexandrite, tnx for the nice comments too http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/bouncy.gif

i couldn't resist this topic :) mythology is one of my favourite subjects to be inspired by, too bad i don't currently have a lot of time to tinker around with it. sigh. but here's what i came up with. Photoshop, an hour or so, photo reference of a statue (a photo that i took, not found, so :P ) except, now that i think about it, it may have been a Roman statue. oops. :D

am gonna try to participate in Daily Sketches more often, i swear! it's a great way to flex those sketching muscles, and prevent them from atrophying due to working my arse off all summer serving coffee, and having nearly no time for art. :(

and now for random comment fun!

jnurp, saw your reply first before heading to work some hours ago. came back to see the updated version, i like it more now, with the separation between different-colour lightings rather than confused blending bwetween the two. Good work! he really has dimensions now. :)

koekebakker, great sense of style!!! i absolutely love it. though something about his expression and gestures (and the headband) does remind me a little of a hippie-Poseidon. that's a compliment, though :D

jasel, i think we can forgive the lack of originality, because it's Goya! :) great rendition. I love that painting as well.

jecaTatu, i just have to add my voice to the comments about beautiful linework... very expressive, looking forward to seeing more of your style!

mirwen, oooh! the first image with more than one God! the topic is Gods, after all ;) You sound disappointed with it, but i quite like it. They could be posing for a movie poster!

Vahn, the watery translucency must have taken a while! it's a quieter image than others, but definitely grabbed my attention.

Skarrow, your Apollo... is stunning. :) I can see a finished painting resulting from this sketch at some point, maybe?

Danielh68, whoah. you sure it wasn't Painter too? ;) Great brushes and textures, i gotta say. Dionysus keeps fun company :)

BloodTaster, love the linework and style!!

ahbeejieh, welcome!! hope to see more sketches! especially love the way you rendered the forest, i can see the light through each leaf, even though it is a sketch. Artemis looks like someone not to mess with :) And, I think most upload images online somewhere, then link to them. (gotta be one that allows offsite linking, though, and preferably a free one so you don't have to pay for bandwidth used.) try, for example, www.imageshack.us (http://www.imageshack.us/) ?

monsitj, i really like the underwater light-reflections! and his expression :) Poseidon seems like a popular one on this thread tonight! everyone's got a unique take on him, though.

apologies to anyone i missed :(

P.S. ack, i gotta cut down on this emoticon addiction! :) <--- ....see?! AAAGH!
