A hobbyist max user since 4.00, I'm trying to make the shift from being a hobbyist to being a freelancer with set weekly goals to achieve. Like, one object a week. This way I hope to focus my freetime max efforts and come up with some look-able stuff at the end every week.

(I may even have a 3d objects collection to show to girls sometime  )

This week's object, a brazilian vase. I am doing it to learn NURBS.

I will take any word into account, yet I feel the pressure to stress that ideas on how to improve the model would be most appreciated.

Uhm, what's the name of the plant that I positioned in the vase btw? I could not find it anywhere on the net or in any encyclopedia!! Maddening...

[rendered with Brazil 1.00 in max 5]

(I posted a link to the image but for some not so obvious reason it may not show up in the post. I wonder if I do it wrong. :annoyed: )

(in case the picture doesn't show in the post, YOU CAN FIND IT HERE!)

maybe try and hollow the inside of the vase out? it looks like you might have, and if so maybe the index of refraction is at a wierd level.

hey,
The plant looks like a cattail. If that is what you meant it to be, it messes the scale up for me. A cattail is usually about 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 feet long or longer, at least the part that people save for ornamentation.

That makes your vase about 5 feet tall.

For me, the scale makes the vase seem bulky instead of delicate.

A flower that is more common like a rose(I know it's a cliche) would size the vace a little more.

I really like the color selection but the index of refraction does confuse me a little also. I wonder why I can't see the bottom of the vase while I can see the darkness of the inside.

Is it supposed to be frosted? On both sides?

Regardless, I think that it is very pleasing.

Thanks for shairing

If that's brazil 1.0 u'r using, use the glass material, will look MUCH better!

If your using brazil you sholud always remember to click on the 2 sided check in the mat slot, its got somthing to do with light passing through and hitting the back of the otherside....I dun remember too well, but it makes it look more hollow instead of a solid glass object.

And If you have brazil 1.0 you can always go to the support line in mirc as far as I know...I dont have it, the full version that is.
