Hi,

When I open Painter IX on my Imac G5, it loads up to the 'Iniatializing Contents,' then closes out and the message 'Can't Open the File "Painter Settings"' pops up. When I click the option ok, the message pops up again and finally disappears. I checked the Painter IX folder and there is no such file. But there is one in the Painter 8 folder. I deleted the painter 8 folder and that had no effect. Then I deleted the painter IX folder, reinstalled it, restarted, and still got the message. I ran a repair persmissions, deleted and reinstalled again with no success. :banghead: I'm thinking it may be a system software problem because Painter still loads on my G4 powerbook. I haven't downloaded any system updates recently and the problem just started today. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Ok, I think i fixed it. I went to Library/Application Support/Corel/PainterIX. I found the Painter Settings file and deleted it. Painter opened and a new Painter Settings file was generated. :thumbsup:

Hi,

You may have a corrupt Painter Settings file. With Painter quit, navigate to;

/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Corel/Painter IX/

Delete the 'Painter Settings' file and relaunch Painter IX. A new Painter Settings file will be automatically created on relaunch. You may lose any custom palette layouts though (which is why I have a backup).

Yep, that's it. Thanks.

For future reference:

When you have a problem in one Painter version, don't go to another Painter version to fix it.

Each installation of a Painter version is completely separate from each installation of anohter Painter version, just as if they were two different software applications.... separate, independant, and not interacting with each other or sharing program files.

Now that you've deleted the Painter Settings file in Painter 8, you're going to need to restore it or Painter 8 won't work.
