riyazgomes 07-15-2005, 10:12 AM Im totally fustrated with DF...my company was making a choice between DF and combustion and although we all prefer DF over combustion the lack of training material out there is driving the decision makers to go with Combustion...I know eyeon, cmivfx and a few others have tutorials on DF...but its nothing compared to what combustion or AE have out there.
Heres a simple problem which started it all...we have 2 clips which we to play after each other time. The problems that we are facing for over a week now is that the merge node is not allowing us to stretch it in the timeline to cover the duration of both the clips. Anyone has a solution to this??

I am a beginner in DF.
But I think the solution is to add a background node at the begining of your flow; so the first merge is connected to the background and the clip 1; then add a 2nd merge and connect it to merge 1 and your 2nd clip that you can move in the timeline to have it start at the end of the 1st clip.

thanks....it was the dissolve node..rather than the merge node...feeling stupid now..seeing it was a simple solution

In general a node cannot work on a larger part of the timeline than the time defined by the background node attached to it. After all, if the BG node is not active what should the current node process on?

Eyeon has excellent support, you could have easily sent them an e-mail with your flow and a description of your problem. They would have responded quickly with a solution.
Once you become comfortable with node based compositing, you will never want to touch any thing else. Just wait until you see how much time you will save when setting up multiple comps with similiar flows.
