basicaly I took a photo of myself and re painted it trying to get a painted texture I am still having a lot of problems I think I have to stop smoothing everything out as in airbrushing :shrug:but i cant seem to help it ... :)

Feathered passion is basically a play on words I was going for a feavered passion but I wanted to keep that more beautiful touch sensation in the picture as if by viewing it you could feel the picture with your fingertips

suggestions will be much appreciated

thanks

since you all want to see the original photo well here it is....
as you can see I have kept the soft lighting it just worked so well plus I wanted to keep focus on the feeling of the piece doing it in another colour seemed to make it less alive ... trust me I tried it and then I deleted it

I know it is a photo of you but just because it looked so close I put both together and both are perfectly aligned. I do not mind the tracing much since it is your own photo. But it really does little to show what you can do. I am not even sure if you really airbrished it or just smoothed stuff out.

Desp#2/Rog: It was obvious to me when i first saw this post it was photo manipulation and not a hand drawn piece, at least from her post I took that as intended.

soriah: I've never "faked" a painting.. so i don't know what to advise you. The only thing i can advise is to never say it is hand drawn when its a trace, the wolves on CGTalk will eat you alive. :D Anyhow, it looks spiffy so far. Take it to the next level, really try to alter the pic more and try to make it something unique and fantastical. Since you want a feather theme, maybe draw in feathers into the hair or even over some areas of the skin. Actually if you made all the clothing into feathers, that would look pretty fun. :)

I know there is a difference between tracing and photo manipulaton, and its my belief from her first description that she never intended it to be a painjob from the beginning, just an altered photo manipulation.

It is a valid technique, even shown in a lot of painter books, and if the resulting pic is used for say webdesign, its perfectly acceptable - a thin line between a paintover and a manipulation though.

I agree that retouching photos can be a validart form, I think it's just difficult for us to critique unless there's a real deviation from the original photo. It looks good to me, but since it looks the same as the photo there's not really all that much to cit.

Keep going though it looks like it could develop into a good piece.

I like where the feathers and wings are going so far. If the main point of the piece is to be adding the wings, why not go a bit further with them? How would it look with a lot more space to rhe side for the piece to breathe, and for much larger wings? It might be worth trying, or at least experimenting with... Good luck!

http://img284.imageshack.us/img284/6210/feathered19yp.jpgFirst i want to thank you for helping me choose a pc on my other post.

2nd, i just want to say you are a beutiful girl.

I thought i would try to help you with your photo/art piece... I don't mind if you trace photographs first. good practice to paint and to get proportions right when you first start out...

I don't know how realistic or painterly you want you photograph to be, but i just want to point out that your photograph is kind of dull without good lighting. Its a bit dark and hides a lot of detail.

So i hope you don't mind. I did an overlay painting on your picture. I did not wanted to go too extreme because i wanted to stay original to your own photo, but i wanted to add a more interesting lighting, and highlights that brings your eye, lips, neck line, cheekbone, hair and other parts of your body. I also worked a little bit on the background, i did not add any texture because i did not knowhow you like your backgrounds..

I only spent about 30 min tops on this picture. It was just a quick way to show you how something that looks a bit dull, can be made more interesting.

Hope this helped something....Id like to see the end result if you finish this piece...

Cheers..
