Quick question, are there any pros and cons to using Quicktime instead of divx? I'm not sure if I should register my quicktime to pro in order to convert av1 into quicktime format

Well with quicktime you can watch a video frame by frame. On the other hand its made by that evil apple cult. :D

I'm a little confused, I though it was available for pc, yet evil apple is saying I can only purchase quicktime pro for os x?

Frame by frame is perfect, I need it for tutorials.

My wife wilol not let me touch her evil apple laptop.

Quicktime is a smart choice, just think about the time wasted to get the proper DIVX codec. If your aiming for international display that everyone has access to quicktime.

Thanks guys, I purchased version 7, only to find out that it's not live for the PC yet but it's in a stable release. I never used quicktime before , but i heard good things.

Definately worth getting Quicktime. IMO it's best to provide Quicktime and Divx, and let people pick the one they like best. :)

Another question, I'm recording my screen with avi and I can't open them in quicktime. Doesn't look like quick time supports any of my curretn codecs, is there a specific screen capture app that would work with quick time?

for long movies/ sequences quicktime isnt the best solution because using the scrubber could crash quicktime easily.
for tests, trailers , and on the whole smaller-medium files its perfect.

Quicktime is used widely because it is cross platform. The free Quicktime player download has the same video codecs for Mac or Windows versions. That means your video will play on either platform.

Microsoft's Windows Media Player is a Windows-only device. Well, yes, they did release a version for Mac to make it look like it's cross platform, but if you examine it closely you find many of the main codecs are not included in the Mac version. This means that Windows Media videos that may look fine on Windows won't play on Mac.

Quicktime 7 was released not that long ago for Mac, and an early beta version has been released for Windows, with the final version coming very soon. It comes with the venerable Sorenson codecs, MPEG-4 codec as well as the new H.264 codec (which gives better compression than anything else out there.)

So I see, i just did a simple cloud tutorial vid. It was a 64 meg avi file that once I converted into Quicktime ended up being a 4 meg file. Quicktime works great from what I'm seeing. The only problem i get while recording in photoshop , is that my cursor locks up eery 2 or 3 seconds. I tweeked the settings but I think I have too little ramn. I'm running 768 ram , trying to push PS CS and record the activity at the same time.

I'm pretty sure thats it's the ram thats causing the slowdown, it's very annoying when trying to draw.

Use Divx. Quicktime is absolutely useless, slow and big. And it hangs your players alot. When i start playing quicktime file it loads like 3 seconds...sheesh. Useless. And forget about quick free editing it.

Nice little Photoshop tute. I notice you encoded it into the new H.264 codec. It plays nicely on my Mac G5. Your audience will require Quicktime 7 to play it (QT6 doesn't handle H.264) or there are also some alternate H.264 players for Windows.

Quicktime can be big or small, fast or slow, depending on what codec is chosen for encoding.

I was of corse specifying Quicktime for a demo, short, or trailer display AVI and other formats have each of their own an appropriate time on the throne.
