Ok guys if you are kosher with this, i am going to relaunch this.
Here are the idea I have to help the numbers:

We will have NO TOPICS.
We will have only two CORE threads, one for questions/ideas at the WIP forum, and a LATEST COMIC thread at the NEWS section.
You will have a WIP thread called THE COMIC STRIP : COMIC TITLE. This is your playground, but at least have old strips there.
The LATEST COMIC thread WILL BE closed. You get accepted to if by sending me A PM.
To UPDATE your comic, just OVERWRITE the IMAGE file.
To get a better idea of what I have in mind go to http://www.penny-arcade.com/
You can post, daily strips comic pages, one page strips as long as you follow the posting requirements of cgtalk
The MIGHT be contests based on the participation.
So what do you guys think?
NOTE
Ok I am trying something....

We can start NEW comics, right?
I kinda want to work on a new story that I thought of recently. So here's how I see it going-- I start up a COMIC STRIP: Crazy title thread in the 2d/wip section and put up the latest version in the main COMIC STRIP thread you'll have up in the 2d/wip section. Right?

I think not having topics may be better. Free rein to the imagination and all that.

Off we go....

Woohoo!! I'd been wondering about the COMiC STRiP!?

Sounds cool... So our latest comic will be in the NEWS section..? (Will everyone's comics be on the same thread a la 'sketch of the week'?) Is this where the COMiC STRiP will live? Or is it a temporary location for relaunch?

And our WiP and roughs and character designs will be in the WiP section just as they are now? (And we can continue the thread we've already started? I could just keep on posting on my 'COMiC STRiP: KiNG of SPaCe' thread, for instance?)

How about a link to each persons WiP thread by their images in the Main thread?

I will kinda miss the topics... i found them a challenge... but i'll just ask for topics, words and themes on my own WiP thread!!

The freedom will be good! But i think occasional contests would be a nice idea...

I really hope we get a good 'take up' on this...

Thanks Roberto! I'm very excited!

Thanks for the input so far guys.

I want your strip to live in two places,
The NEWS SECTION thread, so everyone can read it and your WIP Thread.

And about the topics, you guys have total freedom on what u what to do, as long it conforms with the posting requirements of the forum.

I can start this puppy inmediatly, but it will take a while before I plug it(2 weeks to a month), so guys have time to polish your ideas.

Who knows, we may have the next www.penny-arcade.com (http://www.penny-arcade.com) right here!

Another idea that i had...

I was planning on Editing the first post in my WiP thread and adding a strip every time i finish one.

That way, people will be able to see a whole load of strips on my first page, rather than having to search for them through the comments on the thread. It's not such a problem now, but could be as time goes by and the thread (hopefully) gets bigger it would save people time if they just want to read through a few of my strips.

I just thought i'd mention it as an idea for peeps...

See y'all in the NEWS section... oooooh!!

I like the freedom of topic WAY better. I was realy excited when i first heard about the comic idea, then when i saw there were topic rules i was very turned off by it. But i will most deffinetly be participating now. I need to go rent American Splendor. :)

Im still a little confused by how the comics are suposed to be posted. I see "comic WIP" all over the 2D forum.

Everyone has their own WiP thread for suggestions, roughs, general banter and finished strips. But there will shortly be a communal thread in the NEWS section that will have the latest FINISHED strips from each participant. Simple.

(correct me if that's wrong, Roberto..?)

How would you suggest the NEWS updates? I've just been using photobucket but it doesn't update like that, I don't think, and I'm sure not going to get a website..

Is there any size/breadth rule? 3-panel, anything, or just whatever?

sounds like a good idea to me, but you know if this gets too huge a sub-forum might be in order....

RobertoOrtiz

duddlebug you are 100% right.

You can do that in photobucket, by DELETING the file you are going to replace. The idea is that the image files should have the same name.

The idea i hadd in minds is that along you post a images less than 800x 600 you should be ok.

I was looking forward to the rebirth of the comics forum/thread!
No topic sounds like a decent idea. Here's a few questions for clarity:
I'm curious how often does one need to update his/her comic?
How often does the Latest Comic news thread get updated - maybe that can serve as a guide?
I'm assuming there'll be a collection of strips by individual posters in the news thread all updating their respective strips as and when. Is that right?
Does the WIP comic title have to be specific (e.g. "The Adventures of Robotman") or can it be something generic (e.g. "My comic strips" - which means the artist just puts any comic ideas in that thread)? If an artist has 2 ideas for distinctly different comics he/she has to create a WIP thread for each one?
Most important question: When can we start?

Ok Ill try to answer your questions:

I'm curious how often does one need to update his/her comic?

as often as you want, but if you dont update your thread for a while, lets say a month, you will be dropped.

How often does the Latest Comic news thread get updated - maybe that can serve as a guide?

Well that is at the discretion of the artist. I just put the ORIGINAL image on the news page, the artists updates his content by replacing the strip on his server.

The image would be called, LATESTSTRIP.JPG. to update his strip he just need to upload a new LATESTSTRIP.JPG on his server.

I'm assuming there'll be a collection of strips by individual posters in the news thread all updating their respective strips as and when. Is that right?

No the thread in the news section WILL BE CLOSED. But commets wilol be placed on the questions/ideas thread in WIP OR in the individual strip thread, also in WIP.

Does the WIP comic title have to be specific (e.g. "The Adventures of Robotman") or can it be something generic (e.g. "My comic strips" - which means the artist just puts any comic ideas in that thread)? I would prefer if you had a thread per strip. That way it is easier for the people to find it.

Most important question: When can we start?

As soon as all the rules are clear.

A nice simple layout. So the title could be text or an image or both? Cool! Good start Roberto!
I'm wondering how the Archive system would work though. If you're overwriting the file each time you update how would you be able to access the previous strips?
I'd love to get one of those calender thingies with the highlights indicating strips done on that day for my site. How about a link to the comic's own webpage (if the artist has one)?

So... Is there not going to be any 'communal thread' once the NEWS thread is closed? If that's the case, How about having links (possibly with an image or logo) at the top of the 'Comic Strip: Questions/Ideas' thread to each participants thread? A 100x100 logo, for instance, or a 400 or 600x100 logo?

I think the COMiC STRiP's gonna need some kind of common gallery or links page to keep some cohesion and tie everybody's threads into the activity.

Whaddya reckon...?

Well the Comic title and the current strip title would ALWAYS be an image. the idea is that if you want to change them, we dont have to reopen the thread.
The idea i had in mind that the archive would be a link to your WIP/Archive thread. I dont have a problem adding an artist webpage link to the strip, AS LONG as the WIP thread is in CGtalk.

To be honest the ide of the overwrite is so this ide can run by itself. To archive just rename in your server LATESTSTRIP.JPG to something like JUL13_05_STRIP.JPG and post it on your WIP thread.

Do you have a link to a sample the "Calendar Thingies". I would love to see it.

I am still debating about the communual thread. Do you guys want one? I might add it under WIP.
I like your idea of the top link A LOT. Let me try an experiment to see if I can make it work.

I'm not sure whether we'd need a communal thread or not... if there were banner links in the first post of the Questions/ideas thread, then that could act as a hub to look at different strips.

But the good thing about a communal thread is that it acts as some kind of showcase. And i think the new system your proposing would work better, because there would always be people's strips on show at the start of the thread. But this would work both with a communal thread or the banner links in the questions thread. With the old system, people didn't get enough done to enter the monthly page, so they didn't submit and it was a case of just looking for their threads through the 2D WiP forum. I do think visuals would help... whether it's a banner or a comic strip or page...

If the threads are 'sticky' then it should be much much easier to look at everyone's work than with the old system, and that can only be good for the COMiC STRiP! :)

Then everyone's just got to encourage more people to take part...

I will open a communal thread at WIP for comments. The thread will have
these stickers on top, (based on your idea) so people can go to the strips quickly.

Roberto,

I love the new rules. In the last rules system i had to make 5 strips just to rech the subject of the topic!

I´m wondering, in the NEWS section thread, are we going to have One thread with all the latest strip of each artist appearing?

My question here is, will an artist in the fourth page, that updates his jpg all the time be there with few views compared to the person that gets the first post and never makes something new?

Or will everyone that PMs you, get a closed thread in the NEWS section that will come to the top when updated? This way, people that updates frequently will have their Comic always fresh appearing to those that navigates in the section.

What if the main locked thread had all the banner/titles in the first post and a little "Updated [insert date here]" below them so we know which comics have been updated? If every strip got a single post in the locked thread you could link to the individual posts with the banners.

Example:

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b216/robertoortiz1/cgtalk/test.jpg
Last updated [some date here]

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/xkostolny/Gott%20Aevil/banner.jpg
Last updated [some date here]
And those banners would be links to their respective threads or posts in the main thread.

That all sounds good. If it's just banners in the first post of the thread then everyone can get in the first post and linked to their thread (which should have their latest strip first), and i think the 'last updated' would be really cool if it can work automatically. It'd save clicking to a thread only to find it's the same as last time you visited.

Just read through and noticed the title format's changed. And i noticed Swizzle started a brand new thread.

Old thread title: THE COMIC STRiP! : jonny duddle 2005 : 'The KiNG of SpACe!

New title?: THE COMIC STRiP! : 'The KiNG of SpACe!

Should we all start new threads for the new COMiC STRiP? Even if it's the same story. I would actually prefer to have the story name more prominent rather than my name and the date. It'd look so old fashioned six months from now! :)

It might be good for a fresh start, but do we need to..?

I think i might just go and do it now...
