lens effects are post effects, they're not actual geometry (it's feasable to make a geometric lens effect, though it would take forever to render) however you can use post effects to make the highlights glow like lens effects, so the specular points on your object will have lens glows.

go to the render settings dialog box, and in the effects section add a "Highlights" post effect, then change the lens flare type to one that you like. Then make sure that the material you want to have flares on is shiny enough (good high specular should do the trick) and away you go... if at first you don't get a result, try lowering the threshold setting in the "Highlights" settings, you may end up with everything "highlighted" if you take that setting too low, or if it's too bright in your scene, so you can up the level on that... also you can make it affect only one object or group of objects by using object id (which you set using a compositing tag on your object in the editor).
hope that helps :)
