Can somebody help me with the FG rendering ??!!
I'm participating to the PA_challenge on this forum and I see a lot beautiful rendering but with other 3D apps...Is it possible with XSI ??
Do you have any tips that could be relevant??
Like the kind of material for the dome and the Illumination value...
Should I put 1 or 2 light in the scene...
What size for the dome compared to the character...

When I try, the result is wether too saturated or not at all !!!

Thank you very Much!!!!

Hi,

first it matters if you are using xsi 2 or 1.53
but for both there are some basic things you can do:

1) set the global ambient to black
2) use one light source, and either set it to black
or if you want specular, set it's intensity to 0.1-0.2
and crank up the specular RGB values of the objects
material to 5,5,5 or even 50,50,50
3) you can use a constant material for the dome,
and try setting different RGB values for different brightness
usually it should be less then RGB 0.4,0.4,0.4
4) if you aplly a lambert or phong material to the dome,
you can have the light source's intensity higher
5) for preview you can use accuracy of 50-100 and min max
at 0 in the FG parameters, for quality render
on 1.53 start with accuracy of 150-200 and min/max of 0.1,0.2
and go up with accuracy and down with min/max for better
quality. on xsi 2,you can use accuracy of around 250, and
click the auto compute button for the min/max, and divide
those numbers by around 10

basicaly you're image is saturated because your lights are too bright.. they should be set to black or almost black, their job in FG
is just "shoot" photons

these numbers are just for getting ok results with almost any
scene size.. try tweaking it from there :)

goodluck,
