View Full Version : best way to create hair..any suggestions?
Leo_gal 07-13-2005, 03:14 AM I know this has probally been asked a million times before......it's my first time trying to create realistic long hair or any hair for that matter and I was wondering what the best way to do it is or if there are any good tutorials that could be recomended. I played around with paint effects a bit and have had a horrible time. It's for a realistic model of a woman. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Leo_gal,
I was ready to start a thread like this yesterday, but I am glad you did it.I am stuck in the same problem for a long time.Untill now I used hair system (maya) and the result mmm...preaty
good , but this forced me to render whit maya and use deep shadow map which is very difficult to handle because of its limitations.I like hair system because I can easyly style the hair and it render fast .The problem is that I have to render my scene with mentalray because now I use miss_fast_skin and converting paintFX to poly...he-he! it's not an options. So I found ,Mr_hair System, a geometry shader for maya that allaw you to render Paint fx with mentalRay-it's to slow. And I move to Shave and haircut -it render fast with mentalray but styling the hair it's a real pain because I didn't find any tutorials and somehow didn't seams to me suitable for long hair.
Another solutions you can find in this thread: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=254850&page=1&pp=15&highlight=hair but remains the animations problem.
I would realy like to continue this thred and see some others people solutions for this problem
here is my model with paintfx hair and deep shadow map
