Looking at all the amazing art in CGTalk, Ballistic Publishing books, and the method of using Zbrush to "paint" textures makes me wonder....
How much are procedural textures actually used in these high-quality works?
It seems like the emphasis is on realistic bitmap textures and UVW maps, not procedural textures. As a newbie, I'd like to focus on what I'm more likely to use the most (though I understand that one should be acquainted with ALL methodologies, as they can always come in handy).
Opinions?
