View Full Version : polygon extrude
twilightened 07-12-2005, 06:08 PM Hi,
Take a plane with 3 subdivisions ( height, width and depth).
select the faces and extrude.
pull the extrude up globally.
select the extruded face and extrude face again.
Problem 1) It does not do a smooth extrude. I find the edges also popping out.
Problem 2) It is not a straight affair to apply texture on the extruded surface. What is the other way ,
BRgds,
Twiligthened.

Make sure you have "keep face together" under polygons>tool options. You may also want to soften/harden the edges?

I was going to post a question about extrude so I suppose I will do it here. Sorry I couldnt be of help for your question twilightened.
How do you extrude a face out of a face? In other words extruding like normal, but still have a face at the original position of the one you extruded.

You could extrude the edges around the face :)

True, but sometimes they are in a hard to reach place and then creating the face along those edges would be a second step in a tight area.

If they are in a hard to reach place I believe you can select the face and hold down CNTRL+ RMB to select "To Edge". That should select the edges around that face.

Just invoke extrude Tool 2 times in a row....of course it wont leave the face in original place but usually it is not needed if you are going to produce model with right topology...;)
