Hey, just wanted to know if any one knew how to make pre-rendered enviroments like onimusha or resident evil. Someone suggested I might have better luck asking here. I know that u have to put all the nice special effects in first...then render it but I'm kinda lost after that. So if anyone could explain it completely or point me to a tutorial ( other than the render to texture tutorial in max ) I'm sure I'm not the only one that would enjoy learning.

Thanx in advance

its nothing special really....pre renders are mostly for games. All you do is render the scene....in isometric if you want to tile the images in a level. And then for characters that animate...you have to render all of the animations.....the programmer then uses the alpha channel so that it looks good against the background.

What makes it more complex is when you need to prelight a scene or use Vertex Shading to fake the lighting....also involved in PC games is layered textures which uses light maps which give shadows and glows n stuff

Hey, thanks for replying! I really appreaicate it. However, I'm completely new to all this and I still don't understand. I'm still learning 3d max and I would like to try and learn it for my modeling for gaming class. If u ( or anyone ) could post steps.......I'd be sure to spread the knowledge.

Thanx in advance :buttrock:

i am a maya user....so best bet is to start searching for Max tutorials. Although the concept is the same. Pre-rendered images for game means that the Animations are actually Sprites and not 3d objects at all.....kinda like an animated Gif on the internet....its just that u render the images instead of drawing in them in photoshop and then the alpha channel will make it so u can overlay it into the game level. Make sense?
