Velk: it seems we think alike!
ashwin911: Love the guy's expression
heavensentdisaster: nice colour scheme
danielh: I don't suppose you'd fancy doing a tutorial on how you achieve such gorgeous texture any time? I wilt in envy at your skill with custom brushes!
mositj and keko, both great visual styles
Erikoinen: what a fantastic idea!

Hi Zepyhri...thanks for the compliments. I suppose I could do a tutorial in the future. However, the texture issue is fairly easy to create. It's really an unpredictable combination of techniques. I will give you a few and whoever else is interested a some examples
1. I start off with a small sketch at 72ppi (say 5 x 6) and work out my value and color scheme. I take it as far as I can to completion before upsampling the work to 300 ppi for details and reworking. Before I do, however, I will copy a layer and run a filter on it. I know filters are taboo, but if used properly they can produce natural organic effects.
For instance, I can apply Texture>Sandstone to the copied layer and it pretty much looks like a filter had done it. However, choose the eraser and some odd shaped brush, fool with the spacing and rotation setting, lower the opacity to 30% and begin massaging (erasing) the copied layer as it slowly reveals the orginal layer underneath. Just keep playing with it until the uneveniness looks natural and appealing...like a real oil painting.
Note: I like doing filters at 72 ppi because the effects can be larger and exagerated which sometimes creates nice unusual patterns. At high resolution you barely notice them unless you zoom in.
Remember: keep tweaking with the copied layer (painting, erasing, massaging, etc) until it doesn't look like a filter....otherwise you failed.
Ummm, I just realized this is turning into something longer than I thought and I still have a couple more techniques to explain. Do you mind if I email you later?
Thanks,
Dan

These are all awesome! And very funny! I started my sketch late last night (involving a certian Miss Red Ridding Hood and a wolf in a compromising situtation), but I barely got it started and didn't have time to finish it. I had to pack late last night, since I'm going on vacation for a week. So I'll leave the sketch up to your imagination (which I'm sure will be much better than what I was working on anyways).
And since I'm leaving today and will be without a computer (or internet! ) You won't be seeing any sketches from me for a week or so. =( But I'm taking my sketch book with me, so hopefully i'll still get in some sketching. I'm sure beautiful Colorado will be plenty inspiration for me.

You know those things that Mario steps on in the Super Mario Brothers game? The ones that get flattened and you get points and all that... Well, one day one of those things decided to eat one of those power-up flowers that makes Mario spit out bouncing fireballs... Out of doing so, it transformed into this bad-ass killing monster with a gun on top of it's head that's programmed to automatically lock on to little men with thick and curly moustache; claws grew out of it to help tear out Mario's big fat head; it got some blunt teeth to to help crush Mario's coin-grabbing ass... Oh it also got some powerful hind legs too so that it would'nt have to sidestep all the time. Now it's a fair fight. Look out Mario, here comes Super Round and Ugly Thing! http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/buttrock.gif
Told yah I can explain... Not just seriously though... http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/grin.gif
Peace to all Mario lovers out there! Just having a little fun http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
