Both Painter and Photoshop are 2D tools. If you really want to do 3D work, you need 3D software like Maya or 3D Studio Max etc.

Hi,

Unless I'm not understanding something, both of those illustrations are 2D.

Read both the forum name and the thread titles to see that both say 2D.

Why not ask those guys what they use? Their artwork is impressive and obviously they don't mind showing it off. I'll bet they wouldn't mind a very polite beginner question.

After all, they had to begin at the beginning too.

Good luck!

thanks for reply

I meant i want to be a 2D concept art designer first, then turn my 2D concept art into 3D. I already know some 3DS, but nothing about 2D painting.
I think if i don't have a excellent texture, i am not able to make a good 3D thing. That why i want to learn 2D now.

thanks

Hi again, Peter,

Out of curiousity, I followed the links to read the two artists full entry information. If you haven't read that info yet, it might help you to do so.

Krzysiek Kamrowski (kengi) talks about using Maya for his 3D line work.

Since he talks about Layers in the notes next to his coloring WIP's, I guess that's all done in 2D. I didn't see anything about the software, but I'd guess it's Photoshop or Painter.. just a guess, though.

Thomas Wendtner (Tomme Lee) - It looks like he did his concept sketches and line art by hand, pencil and maybe some ink (beautiful sketches!). Then his style looks like the piece is painted, again my guess is that he used Photoshop or Painter but I can't see anything where he says what he used.

You'll learn a lot just by reading the multiple pages of their entry information. I'm too tired, and with a slow connection, to wait for all those pages to load so I'm basing my guesses on the first few pages only.
