Yeah, I'll be there. Looking forward to it as I haven't been since Orlando way back in '98. I haven't used Lightwave professionally for a few years now, but I am interested in checking out 8.5 and maybe going to the users group meeting and the Newtek party.
Does anyone know of the time or location of the Newtek party? Hopefully they will unveil 8.5 (or perhaps 9?) there.
I was really into Lightwave for a while and still have a soft spot for it, as it is great software. I also use 3DS Max and Maya, and my training was in Softimage, but I do miss certain things about Lightwave. As I am looking for work right now, I don't want to count any software out either.
I would enjoy meeting any of the folks who frequent the Lightwave forum here, and I wouldn't mind running into Dan Ablan and Proton Vaughan. I contributed graphics for one of Dan's books a few years back and didn't get the opportunity to be properly introduced in person, and Proton worked with one of my classmates in the game industry.
Anyway, maybe I will see some of you guys there and we can chat over a brew.

I will be there again - yet another visit to LA! :( I'm really looking forward to seeing people again, and meeting new ones... I'd certainly like to meet up with any Europeans that will be there, perhaps for interviews and more?

oh bummers, I really really want to go there someday. Sadly enough work never stops around here.

I made it last year...
However, the lovely $4000 of costs to travel there for just a few days fun and excitement just wasn't possible this year around sadly (Peak season - Airfares skyrocket for July/Aug!)
I'm a little bummed out on that one... :(
Last year was only possible as it was a stop over on our way back home from a Holiday in Europe. Even then, whenever someone found out I was from New Zealand, they were like 'Holey cow, that's a LONG way to come for Siggraph!' :D
Have fun, and I'll keep my eyes peeled on that NewTek video archive... :)

I will be there all the way from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Fourth time at Sigg. Third in L.A.
Should be a fun time.

I'll be there. I am giving a Sketch on my Mars Rover work Thursday afternoon. (at the same time as ILM's sketch on the lava planet... argh.)

definitely going to try to be there if work isn't too crazy. I always want to go to these things but have to cancel because of deadlines.

Man... Same here. I want to go to one of these but it's right around "Back to School" week and that is The craziest biz here at the shop. AAAAAARghhhh.... I even have a round trip tick from AMEX... Dang it.

Eric and I'll be there. :)

would love to go... but Germany is kind of far... maybe somebody would like to carpool :)
07-17-2005, 04:35 PM
I'll be there.
Rob, would be nice to meet you too. Look for me around the NewTek booth
on Tuesday... or email me and we'll set a time.
My bud had to cancel, so I'll be going solo this year.

Anyone know if there's a Newtek party this year?
07-28-2005, 07:16 PM
Anyone brave enough to put their CGTalk handle on their nametag?
07-28-2005, 07:22 PM
I haven't done that but it does say "CG Gunslinger" on my badge ;)
