View Full Version : Any good tips&trics/tutorials for color correction?
StudioJ 07-11-2005, 08:18 PM Hi!
I'm doing color correction in 2minutes shortfilm. Format is DVCAM and tools what I can use are AE 6.5 (?) and newest Final Cut Pro. Anyone know good tutorials about coloring with those programs? Maybe that is better to do in AE? I look at sticky thread called "After Effects Tutorials online (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=6834)" but I don't see any tutorials about coloring.
I'm very sorry about my English. Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks a lot for you teaching me and your time!

I highly recommend Mark Christiansen's book, "After Effects 6.5 studio techniques"
It has very good info on color correction w/ After Effects. Also, compositing books are great in general.

You don't need to look specifically for AE tutorials. AE has some of the same exact filters and commands as Photoshop, and some other programs. So just type in "color correction tutorial" at Google and you should get a LOAD of results. Or instead of looking for AE tutorials on it, look for Photoshop ones too.
Most of them will just talk about the Levels and Curves filters/commands. Others will get into more complicated techniques by using layers and blending modes...even the Apply Image and Calculations commands in Photoshop. And I'm sure Adobe has some tutorials themselves too since color correction in AE is a recent new feature. I have version 6, and from what I've read on color correction I've got all the tools I need, the new color correction tools are basically just a visually easier way to do it using the color wheels.
Look for tutorials on color theory first though, then look for color correction ones. There may not be many good tutorials on the Internet for AE, but there are LOADS of Photoshop ones.
