View Full Version : Maya memory allocation or setting to make it faster?

Hey guys just want to know is there a memory setting that I can tweak so Maya can run better on my system. Maya tends to crash on me when I have about 30000 polys on screen and a character with an attached joints, while trying to pose it just starts to slow drastically down. I’m thinking maybe there’s some kind of minimum memory usage?



P.S. here is my general PC specs



Pentium 4 1.8Ghz

768 MB RAM

GeForce FX 5200



I know its not the newest system, but shouldn’t it at least handle one rigged character?

Best memory management for Maya is to keep history turned off when you don't need it and to keep your Undo's below 25.

I prefer to use 15 undo's max... started off using Infinite and ran into massive crashing issues, no longer have that problem though.

Specs are:

P4 3.0 Dual Core
2GB DDR2 533
256MB GeForce 6600GT

and a Athlon 64 3400+, 1gb DDR400, Nvidia MX440 Go 64mb (laptop specs)

runs fine for me :)

Whoa ! Maya never crashes on my old A900, even with 60k polys on screen or so.

I think you're right that is my problem, I undo like crazy and I have it on infinite plus the history also, cause everytime I restart it it works fine. thanks man.
