Hey guys, I put up a new modo tutorial page on my site if you want to check it out. The tutorials are mostly along the lines of how to use the program - e.g. "How to make a Pie Menu" as oppossed to "How to model an African Swallow".

I tried to make some that answered a lot of the FAQ's I've seen around here (how to run a script, make a new layout, create a macro, etc.) They will probably be most usefull to people new to modo, or coming over from other packgages - although there's a few more advanced ones.

lemme know what you think,

-Greg

Excellent. Have been wondering how to make a pie menu. I try and play with Modo about 15 minutes a day...getting to learn it. I still haven't delved into the manual much.
Anyway, thanks for these. I'll check them all out later.

Laden or Un-laden? (please tell me Monty Python has not faded from the collective conciousness..)

"Laden or unladen" was the first thing I thought of, but I've been resisting. :D Be assured I kept asking myself that question all day yesterday after reading your post: I know how to make a pie menu...but I don't know the air speed of the African swallow. At least I knew it was African, and not European.

Lol, so what's your favourite color?

hi Leuey/Greg!

just wanted to express my appreciation for these movies. I can't tell you how useful they are. I think it's the first time I have come across a good guide to snapping in Modo...
Your teaching style is very good and clear. I hope you make more movies - I certainly have bookmarked your site for future return visits.
Again, thanks again for being so generous,

peace

Hey guys, this should work:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/macintosh/osx/default.aspx

I had originally intended to make everthing a quicktime (and have them all in quicktime format) b/c pretty much all PC people have QT installed. However QT can not come anywhere close to .wmv in terms of size and quality. I just don't have enough room on my site to host these in QT format - they're way too big. Maybe when H.264 is more prevalent I'll give it another shot. So I went w/ .wmv (which is the format I use for the rest of my site). And even though QT is more popular among DCC people, nearly all of my clients in Silicon Valley don't even have QT installed - it's hardly a blip on the radar in the corporate world (aside from the occasional producer who just uses their powerbook).

If anybody has some compression tips using the QT mpeg 4 format please let me know and I'll see if I can get them down to something reasonable.

Thanks a ton for doing this. I especially like the soft selections one... solved a problem I was too lazy to work on with my current model extremely quickly! I can't believe I completely overlooked weightmap falloff

Well, thanks for the link to media player, but it does not work on Mac os 10.4.2
I do not know why, but i can not get it working.

So i will look later, when wmv does work again

I think that this tutorial page is really awesome!! I have only one complaint/question. Is there any way to make these really nice tutorials downloadable? (Maybe it might have been one of these personal gremlins that prevent me from downloading it<g>)

I ask this because I am a Lightwave user who is buying Modo within the next couple of days for the purpose of modeling on my laptop w/o worries of losing a dongle. Therefore, at the time that I would really need to view the tutorials, I would not have access to the internet to view them.

Right-Click the link and 'Save Target As..'
I actually used FlashGet so I could download all movies at once...

I was able to download a couple of the videos. I used IE to browse the site. I was using Mozilla before. I don't know what difference that made. Only that there was a difference.

You guys have done such a great job on the tutorials, that I wanted to make a special request. Could you make a tutorial on spline modeling? Yes I still model using splines.:) As I mentioned in my last post, I'm currently using Lightwave. Therefore, I'm used to creating models using a spline cage, then patching those models. Spline-modeling/patching in Lightwave is pretty straight forward.(Cause I'm used to it) I've used some other features in Modo and have decided that it really does make sense the way Modo implements those tools. I just haven't figured out how spline cages work enough to make the models I'm used to making in Lightwave. So, I've settled for creating the basic model in Lightwave using splines, then importing ithe model into Modo to edit and refine the mesh. (Those edge tools are so cool!)

The documentation that comes with Modo seems to be a bit spares about this. Even the video tutorial I've seen doesn't go into enough detail. Thanks again! Please keep up the great work on the tutorials!

I do have a spline tutorial planned - it may be a while before I get to it, they're better than LW's just a little hard to understand at first.

Hi Panadar, if you are unable to download all of them using a browser, try using them in windows media player and when it has finished loading them, click "File >Save as" and you can save them to your harddisk.

You ain't kidding!! I've tried some spline modeling in Modo recently. I'll look forward to your tutorial. So far, I really like this program. However there are some things that I'm having some difficulty with. Spline modeling is one of them! But, the more I learn about Modo, the more I know that this program is definately my modeling program of choice. In the meantime, I'll use both Modo and Lightwave to model my objects since I'm on a deadline to complete some of them. Especially the ones that require spline-modeling and patching:)

Thanks for the suggestion! Actually, I download a program called 'Flashget'. All problems solved as I have already downloaded all tutorial files! Again guys, thank you all for the suggestions and help!! My best to all of you in your quest to become computer animators!
