I was practising painting human faces today and my computer started acting up a little. Out of frustration I drew some random strokes and soon it evolved to the creature on the right. I thought it looked kinda cool so I started thinking if I could use it for today's sketch. After a few minutes of thinking I came up with this idea.

It's my dog. he is a Malenois Sherperd. I wanted to train him to be a policedog, but he hasn't got it.
I won't find a severate arm in my home. I guess he will play with the burglars and probably attack me if I would hit them. A well, I still love him....
Illustrator CS, Wacom, about 1 hour (I like to tweak).

ebr - if that were the view out my window, I'd be worried! I like the choice of colors, particularly the green light burst
DoInferno - nice to see some traditional art!
Amadeus001 - dramatic and excellent creature design. Good use of fog/mist as well.
gomez21 - welcome. lots of little details. Very nice mood to the piece.
danielh68 - excellent textures and color scheme; The pallete really makes things look forbidding... and the guards look like they won't hesitate to shoot!
csgirl - Nice take on the subject. I like the lightsource from below. Plant and vegetation interesting throughout.
silvergray - the little girl is well done, she looks rather mournful.
Norante - 11 minutes well spent! Good color blocking, and nice choices for what details were needed and what could be left out.

Ebr: Fantastic colour !
Danielh68: The lighting in your sketch is amazing :)
CSGirl: Excellent as usual ;)
Silvergray: I think you captured the mood of the girl well although without eyes she is quite lifeless.
Keko: Wow!

I'm not sure that I fall completely in today's subject. It was the name of his grandfather. (For those Pooh Bear fans, I know that the sign is suppose to say, “Trespassers W”, but I did not find my mistake until after I completed the image.)

This took about four hours split between two days on GIMP.

Hey A., that's a bit brutally brilliant. I felt that way with the Airwolf thingy already, but I must tell you, I really want to know a bit more about what you're doing there! The illumination of this is a very accurate feeling Global Illumination that is rather hard to find in free and simple paint-sketches. It feels like an ingenius technique and an impactable sense of lighting, but is there any form of direct or even indirect reference for this? I'm almost afraid to ask that actually, but somehow it feels just a little too damn perfect on a strange level. If you think it's a clever little thing you'd rather keep to yourself, don't worry about it, but I'd love for you to record an openCanvas1.1 eventfile with your marvellously good_brush style! :bounce:
Congratulations.
OH, while I'm at it, Daniel68 - love what you're doing there!
Keko - a new DSG star I notice, fantastic work! :buttrock:
Norante - I kinda like that, really! Sweet! :)
ebr - good view you've got there! It's a believable athmosphere!
CSGirl - I once made a strange sketch for a Tarot type topic and the slight stiffness of the girl in there totally reminds me to that, too. I like it, but it feels a little like you should loosen up a little, if that makes any sense? I believe this might be because of the uniform strength/brightness and contrast of destinctive elements on your picture. It shows a lot of neat potential and if you were letting things focus at a specific location on your layout, I think it would suddenly gain great depth! Cute entree for sure! :)
Silvergray - it looks like you've been putting a lot of effort into the two details and never developed a sense for the image itself in this case. You should explore creating the whole image first and then gradually evolve specific details. It'll actually save you time and in you can simply stop when ever you want, but your image will always work. As opposed to hurling yourself into beautiful details that ultimatively don't quite make a picture. You show really nice powers!
I'm a little weak these days somehow...I was gonna make some things, but so far I can't get to it...
Rock on, everybody, great work! :buttrock:

Brutal Monk - Cheers bud!
Taron333 - It's a very simple technique. Without thinking, I quickly put down some black shapes that look good together.
Then using the palette knife I begin to "sculpt" in the major forms. The shape of the random black strokes determines the design of the character, so I don't have to worry about coming up with an original design - it should just happen.
Once I'm happy with the values I start adding detail.
The key to this is understanding form and how light plays over surfaces (I still have much to learn). Here is an example of my attempts to create 3d looking paintings. http://img160.echo.cx/img160/1931/bmwtank58ye.jpg
No ref or 3d was used.
Glad you like my work - you are a fantastic artist

Nice pics
Well this thread is inpired by a scary/funny incident that happened to us this weekend.
It had the following elements:
An abandoned house in the DEEP SOUTH, 30 miles from the nearest highway
A group of young "city folk"
A pissed off hillbilly woman with a young son on a 4 track vehiccle. And did I mention he was wearing a dixie hat?
A foot race into the woods while being chased by a 4 track....
A car escape
God I wish I was kidding...
Here are some pics of the house

Andrew, you're absolutely insane and I'm not sure if you know about it?! WOWSER! Incredible work! I believe that this sketch group gets you even stronger out of the pure object oriented realm, which brings off things from you that are unstoppably brilliant. Totally rock on, Sir! Kick a##!!! :buttrock:
Thanx for the conceptual insight, too! I'm familiar with the approach, just not with such stunning and easy feeling outcome! Congratulations! :deal:
