hi there!

i've purchased a 21" crt (hp1130) and xsi on 1600x1200 is acting crazy! i see objects deformed... for example a sphere is displayed like an egg (standing verticaly). i've played with the options from camera (inspect camera)... i 've put "1.3333" at the image aspect ratio and "1" at pixel ratio. i still see the "egg". i know that 1600x1200 is a standard resolution (1.3333). on 1280x1024 (1.25 ratio) i see the sfere as sfere should look, but others images in windows are wrong and a sphere in 3dsmax is displayd wrong in 1280x1024(like the egg but standing horizontaly). it's frustrating to change resolution every time i switch to the other program.
plese help me on this one!

p.s: exuse my bad english!

I don't know, XSI works fine for me on 1280 x 1024 as well as on 1920 x 1200 on my m70 laptop. Perhaps it's a problem with your graphics card, or the driver?

1280 x 1024 & 1920 x 1200 are not standard resolutions (1.33 ratio, such as 640x480,800x600,1024x768,1280x960,1600x1200 and so on...) and if i work in max i get oval spheres! changing the resoltion everytime i switch between apps is the only option for me? :(

Nistor, my point was that the same version of XSI works fine with those different aspect ratios without the need to change settings. I'm really not sure why you get this behavior, but you asked what people are using, so I responded...

uhmmm... I remember always working in 3dsmax in 1280x1024... o.O , it never displayed oval spheres. I'm guessing you probably have problems with your graphics card driver.

edit: in fact, if you do a google search, you'll find that the reccomended resolution for 3dsmax is 1280x1024 (from their site).

There's no problem with the card or drivers. In fact i've changed my old card (radeon9200) with a "new" one, Quadro4 700xgl. There's still the same "problem". The most 3d companies(eg:alias, discreet, newtek, maxon, etc.) made their 3d apps for standard monitors with a standard display resolution: 1.(3) ratio. Avid thought of being different! And they succeded! They develop the only 3d app made especialy for wide monitors (1.25 ratio). Congrats Avid! It's only just i don't have a wide crt! Huh!?

o.O
You don't get it do you, you are the one having the problem.
XSI should work fine in 1280x960 (1.3), the only problem being that some of the interface may not be seen.
I've worked with XSI in 1600x1200(1.3) myself, and if you search the forums many people use that resolution, why don't they have the problem if XSI is not meant to be used in this ratio.

As for Discreet, that you mentioned, if you check this link (http://www4.discreet.com/Files/3dsmax/3dsmax_tech.pdf) you'll see that 1280x1024 is the reccomended resolution.

1280x1024 isn't meant for 'wide monitors', I don't know where you're getting that.

I'm running 1280x1024 and XSI looks fine...you really must have your basic settings for your graphics cards setup odd. Maybe you need to override windows auto monitor settings so that you graphics cards read the format correctly? I only say this since you've changed out two cards and still have the same problem.

I've run XSI in 1600x1200, 1920x1200, 1440x900 and 3200x1200.

It works fine in all of them. There is probably a problem with your monitor/computer, not XSI.
