View Full Version : C4D animation to realflow3?
liukainorth 07-10-2005, 07:22 PM Hi, guys. I've just bought a realflow3 tutorial last week.
The tutorial guy claims that he can save the maya animation into a .sd file and open it in RF3 real easy.

I did the same again and again except in C4D R9, but the obj. was exported without the animation.
Can anyone export C4D animation into realflow3? Any plug-in?

Go to nextlimit.com , plugins section and get the C4D R9 realflow plugin.

OKay - what exactly are you trying to do? 'Cos that screengrab ain't helping much...
I just animated a basic cube, ran it through some particles in RealFlow, saved a .bin mesh sequence and exported back into C4D. No problems here...

use the export SD menu in the nextlimit plugin suite for cinema4d. If you are just using path based animation don't worry about saving the vextex information.
There was a tutorial covering the basic ins and outs of file exchange at next limit's site if I recall correctly.

To summarise...
1) Go to www.realflow.com and download the C4D plug-ins - they've recently been updated so get the latest versions.
2) Download or watch the online tutorial videos (Training>Plugin Videos)
3) Make sure you have RealFlow's preferences set to Default Environment = Cinema4D, Default Scale = 0.01
4) When modelling for RF, don't forget to Triangulate your mesh object prior to export
5) Create your animation and use the Plugins>NextLimit>[NL] SD Scene Exporter 2.0. In the Objects panel, check the 'Sv' tick box for your object; if the object isn't deforming, you don't need to check the Vertex 'Vt' box.
6) Set the 'Outfile' save path and click 'Save SD'.
7) Open RealFlow and use the File>Import>Import SD Scene to open the animated C4D mesh.
8) Do whatever RealFlow stuff you want to do. Remember to save your particles or meshes as .bin sequences.
9) For a simple particle or mesh collision, go back into C4D and use the Plugins>Nextlimit>[NL] RealFlow Mesh loader v1.0 or use a Null object with an Expresso tag for the particle sequence (it's all in the videos).
10) Render!

Thank you guys, that really gives me some hints. Here is how I did:
1) set up an "align to spline" in C4D.
2) use the 2.0 exporter plugin to save a sd. file.
3) then merge the sd. into a realflow scence
The problem is that after the sd. was imported, I couldn't see the spline (the sphere was supposed to follow the line). But the tutorial that I bought shows that a spline is also imported as well as the object (but they use maya to demostrate).

Surely it dosn't matter if you don't see the spline? The SD file should just contain the movement of the sphere? Basically - does the sphere move in RF as you'd expect? if it does, you're good to go.
If it doesn't, then just manually keyframe the movement of your sphere (I don't really know, but it's possible that the action of attaching the sphere to a spline means that RF can't use the motion data... for some reason.)
