View Full Version : Maya_Gimbal lock

Hi,

I have a problem, my character is in the default pose.

When I rotate my hand down, X and Z axis are get together one.

So here is a simple avi shows my problem...it is divx 5.0.2

I need to solve this, because i can`t animate in FK mode :(

Have you tried changing the rotation order?

Gimbal is just something that every setup and animation team has to deal with. If your character is this simple, I recommend rebuilding the arm skele. At the shoulder, make three(3) joints one on top of the other. Name them (ArmRotX_1,ArmRotY_1,ArmRotZ_1) seperately. Then you only have to rotate one axis for each joint. If you put in IK, make it at only the ArmRotZ_1 bone to the wrist, and not to the ArmRotX_1.
And when you skin the character, only akin the arm at the ArmRotZ_1 joint as well, theres no need to skin the other two.
It makes your workflow hard to get used to at first, but I think the final result is alot easier on your sanity.

Yeah i tried changing order and it wasn't different..
