View Full Version : Clothhilde tag
tonyg3d 07-10-2005, 01:58 PM Hi All,
Wondered if someone could help out.
I have to provide a looping animation of a flag fluttering and am using
a clothhilde tag on a plane (inside a cloth nurbs tag). I thought this was the best way?
Anyway, using the cloth Tag I need to make the animation start and stop at
exactly the same place (or a frame before) so the animation loops.
Any idea how to do this in the clothtag perameters / Keyframes?
Thanks,
TonyG.

unfortunately looping can't be achieved with dynamics (clothilde).
Try a mix of compound deformers starting with flag.

Hey
you could use clothilde to generate several states of the flag, bake them and then morph between those states to generate the actual animation.

Why not try belting portions of the flag to invisible controller objects and animate those instead? This way, you can have the controllers themselves loop. Just an idea. (Might be more trouble than it's worth. Haven't tried this solution yet.)

good idea, but the unbelted portions would not loop properly.. additionally you can only belt one polygon object at a time, which would mean lots of PLA (or the use of of nickl on the controller, perhaps).
baking and morphing is also a good idea, but I think it would result in odd stretching at the full loop morph.

The Nickl deformer (part of the recently given-away suite of Jenna tools from Core)
is perfect for this, as it provides loopable noise with definable periods... I use it in production all the time and it is totally awesome. Hands down the best noise-based deformer for any program anywhere. The thought of not having it in the next version (I have used it since version 6) makes me want to cry. If you don't have Jenna, there may be an old free version of Nickl still kicking about somewhere...

dunno, much about animation, but a sensible thing for looping would be to just play the animation backwards after it finished and then it owuld loop perfectly. Well i think this method would work for a flag.

Errr thanks guys.
Can anyone think of an easy way to create a short 'looping' animation
of a flag fluttering then? The flag deformer just doesn't cut it does it?
Thanks for the advice,
Tonyg.

Is it possible to make a looping greyscale animation - say in After Effects - and use that to displace the plane?

Would animating or distorting with noise work?
Gonna give it a go.
