Hello everyone. I'm new to these forums and this is my first post.
I'm quite new to Painter IX as well. I really need your help with this!

Can someone please tell me how to achieve this kind of stroke? As seen here: example 01 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18450620/), example 02 (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/19630541/) (I love how the skin looks), example 03 (http://hadess.org/main.htm) (I'm almost sure she works in Painter, probably P6).

I've been trying to solve the mystery myself but still I can't get this look. All I get is too smooth. I'm desperate to know what brushes should I use. Are these digital watercolors? I'm dying to know. Please, can someone tell me...?

Another thing that I'd like to know is - how to soften harsh lines in digital watercolor? So it won't all go white?

Sorry for my crappy English. I swear I'm trying my best :P

I can't see the paintings that well on my monitor (still saving for a halfway decent one, this one's shot), but if you're trying to replicate her strokes and it's coming out too smooth, you should switch to a more textured brush. Your best bet is probably to make your own, actually. Enayla had a great tutorial on this, which I'm sure you can find if you do a search. (She also did a great tutorial on blending, which would likely help you.)

Try these two brushes:

Chalk -> Square Chalk (change the subcategory to Soft Cover)

Acrylics -> Captured Bristle

Also read over Chris Beatrice's Girl in the Iron Shoes article. He has a great technique for brushes in Painter 8 which also works in Painter 6 and 9. Article Link.

Thank you so much for tutorials and pointing good brushes!
Tutorials (especially the blending one) and your advices were a huge help.
Square chalk and Grainy Water is what I've been looking for. Maybe not _exactly_ but it looks really really well. It fits my style.

Love you forever, thanks again!

Rogfa --

I do it all the time when Painting in Photoshop (http://www.digitalartform.com/archives/2005/04/painting_with_p.html), but I could not find an equivalent technique for Painter that I liked until now.

That Chris Beatrice / Iron shoe blending technique is what I've been looking for in Painter: simple painting and blending in one pressure sensitive brush. Thank you.

Hey no prob. I sent Chris a PM thanking him for sharing that technique on the conceptart.org boards before he completed the cgtalk article. It's a really cool brush setting that clears up all the "clutter" or feeling of being overwhelmed by the amount of brushes Painter has. Thanks for the Photoshop link too - good read.

I think it`s not definitly Painter. Maybe Painter6+Photoshop5 or 6. I`m not so shure...

But it`s look like Open Canvas (version 2 or 3) in some strokes an details.
Especially in second example.

You can see product information there:
http://http://www.portalgraphics.net/en/products.html
And here you`ll find many works in that programm by other artist from OC-community.
