View Full Version : Vampire Character
IcemanJ 07-09-2005, 10:30 AM Hi all at CGTalk. I have started creating my first character. I modeled one head long time ago but it was horrible. So now I´m working on vampire character. I have started with head. As references I used some images of moria orcs from Lord of the Rings. I built basic head with (I hope) right topology. Then I began creating advanced shape of head and adding so detailes like wrinkles etc. Then I want to add some detailes and make normal and displace map in ZBrush. After that I´ll start working on body. I draw my own references for that. So here are some images:
basic head with topology:

advanced shape and few detailes

I´m looking forward every reply and I welcome all critics. Soon I´ll post my progress. :wip:

So I´m here with a little update. I made teeth, teeth ridge and base of mouth interior. I used human teeth as reference for vampires teeth, then I modificated them. Teeth and whole head is now symmetrical. I´ll make it asymmetrical when I´ll be finishing modeling.

I´m waiting for our reactions. :bounce:

The teeth look a bit too flat I reckon... Also for future ZBrush mods, I think you're adding far too much unnecessary detail in the mesh, such as the wrinkles etc... Keep it up mate

loocas: thx for reaction man
I know about teeth..I fixed it..and for detailes I think that I will reduce them and leave them on ZBrush :)
tomorrow I´m going to post next upgrade: interior of the mouth, tongue and fixed teeth

Ok... looking fwd to the updates ;)
Oh btw, one more thing before u export it into Zbrush... Take another look at the skeletal anatomy of the creature, especially the eye-brows, chin and cheeks etc...

loocas: ok I´ll look at anatomy a little and modify some parts.
Please more reactions CGtalkers ;)
So updates will be at tomorrow evening

Iceman,
I think he's a good start for a good model. A few things I notice: his lips are pretty non-existent; adding lips will make him more believable. His mouth is essentially a big hole; it's not how a real mouth looks. it comes to a point on the corners.
Then, for the eyelids; I don't know if you thought about what you'll do for them, but you may need a little ridge where the lid terminates and the eye begins. did you want the eyelids to be separate? that may make it easier to animate. or blendshape, whatever.
The eyelids as they sit now are not very realistic. Good Job!

GeoffClark:
thx you for your reply..
for lips: I want to make his teeth and teeth ridge visible when he has closed mouth, it makes him more ghastly, but as you advise me I´ll make some hint of lips.
and for eyelids: I´m going to plan to go back to eyelids and make them more realistic. You mean make them separately from other mesh of head? So how to connect eyelids made by this way to head? I think that it´ll not be too realistic or I am wrong? Please explain me how you mean this way of making eyelids..THX

nice model! but maybe you should place the teeth more realistic, if a real-life human (or vampire) would have teeth like that he would drool and never being able to close his mouth.

tobala75: thank you for reaction.. I knew about drooling :) it cause more ghastly appereance...and for closing his mouth. I tried to close his mouth and it goes smoothly, I must only adjust teeth a little..

I´m here again with little updates. I made teeth little wider, then I made interior of mouth and tounge. As loocas write I fixet anatomy a little. I deleted some wrinkles. I´m going to make them again but in ZBrush.

So I´m waiting for your comments. :wip:
personally I think your first step would have been better for zbrush, altho it doesn't really mather, you can make a theapot from a matchstick model in zbrush, so keep it up

EVIL: I´m modeling in 3ds max. I do it there becouse I after want to animate it and made displace map in zbrush. So I don´t know if mesh from zbrush is well animateable...

nice improvement, but i think you should sharpen and thicken the teeth, and also maybe add a few wrinkles to the nose so it doesent look so piggy-boy-like. nice progress though!
peace!

tobala75: thx you dude ;)
I´ll modify teeth a little..every tooth will be different..And I can add some wrinkles to nose, but I thing that displace map made in ZBrush will make it batter

Hi,
I really love the ears! That's very cool.
For me, I would think strong cheek bones, and eye brows would improve the look of the character.
http://vvdfx0.tripod.com/id3.html
Here are some examples of what I'm talking about.
The nose is more of a personal decision, but I would add some fleshy tips to the top of it.
http://www.waol.com/pages/images/32.JPG
This example is more of a bat nose, but I think two fleshy spikes sticking up from the nose would improve the image. Right now it looks like a PIG nose.
The teeth are great! Love the teeth!

I noticed the gum line around the teeth is something that needs more work.
Normally the gum line is curved around the shape of the teeth, and here the gum is flat and straight across the mouth.
Take a look at the close up image of the gum line from my Demon character and notice the curves around the teeth. This looks great when rendered, and more natural.
Take a look at my teeth gum line

mustan9: thx a lot man ;)
You´re right with cheek bones and eye brows. I must do something with the nose becouse you aren´t first who said that it´s like pig nose :)
And for teeth I wanted to do that but I forgot :banghead: I´m going to fix it ;)

Hi CGTalkers. I´m here after long time (I have created some commercial work). Now I can introduce you finished vampire head. I hope that you will like it. So now I´m going to make a body and than I´ll rig it and I´ll make some animation which can help me (I hope) to get onto university. Then I´m going to make some great image with my vampire. So I hope that you like him. Please be considerate because it´s my first character and first organic modeling. :)

The gums, nose and face look a lot better. This guy looks like a vampire! Nice job!
What kind of body do you plan on doing? I think he'd look good in something where the skin was tight to the bones. Lot of ribs showing, and thin arms.
With those ears this guy would look amazing with a SSS rendering. Can you post a quick skin rendering test?

thank you a lot man
I plan on body which you discribed but I want to make him slim but he´ll have very good visible muscles.
I´ll make material and texture after finished modelig but I can post simple fRSkin shader test. :)

so here is little test with default fRSkin shader without texture..please excuse material of eyes and lighting :) it was made in haste

He is going to look amazing when your done.
Have you tried ZBrush, because the setup of the polygons would make him work very well in ZBrush.

thx dude
I made some tests in ZBrush, but now I must be quick with body modeling, rigging, skining and animation..I must have some very little short movie in three month becouse I´ll need it for entrance exams..
