Anyone had any unexplained render freezes? I'm having major probs with an interior scene after I put up radiosity to 200% strength it goes from 30 mins prepass to never completing after hours! also had the same scene freeze after the prepass.

What is the complete checklist?
a) memory problem - don't think so, but how can i tell, error message?
b) to many polys - maybe but, low poly count and also using low accuracy tags on most objects
c) high render settings - no all optimized
d) faulty objects??? how does this happen and how do you know?
e) software's fault! I hope not cause this happened in r8 demo aswell

I'm using g4 500 with os 10.2.1, cinema 7.303 is using less than half of 512mb ram as stated in process viewer,
rendering with radiosity, < default settings. 72,000 polys, diffuse of 5

I'd really appreciate any help

Hi,

Not sure what the problem is at all...

If I where you, I would try booting the old fella up in classic and trying to render through that. Worth a go?

er....good luck!

have you tried lowering the radiosity to give a lower quality result also where does the scene freeze?

yeah i can render it with criminally low settings eg 15% 20, 1-10, any higher and it grinds to a halt. I'm still testing it with and without different objects, I'll see if tech support will look at it and help me out. it freezes just before some objects that I tested by themselves and tagged to 7% accuracy

I've rendered scenes like this before which usually went to 14hrs but now this is using less polys a couple more lights and its going to 27 hrs (unfinished) 10 hours antialiasing one line??? ... maybe something hasn't been optimized?

its really frustrating, got any tips on rendering realistic sprites instead of geometry?

amapi: going to try os 9 today...
