View Full Version : SteadyCAM update + add ons
tcastudios 07-08-2005, 02:45 PM SteadyCAM77. Added switch to use original spline settings. Separate EasyIN and OUT for camtracks.
SteadyBANKER. Single spline banking.
SteadySPLINE. Attaching a spline to two objects. With settings for bending and offset.
SteadyARC. "Crane" spline for long flythru's. Keeps lowest point fixed regardless of radius.
These are all meant for cameras and targets but might find other find uses as well.

Hello Lennart,
Want to say,........ THANK YOU Sooooooooo, MUCH.
I was trying to use the SteadyARC, my understanding is that its suposed to serve as a track or rail on which the SteadyCam can move.
So I merged it with the steadycam77 file, and dragged the name into CamTrack1 but no matter what I do, I cannot make it move along the arc.
What am I missing?
Kind regards.

The CamTrack fields only work with splines, so use the Arcspline object (not the SteadyARC Null).

Hey Lennart--I finally got the chance to put SC77 to use. Just a simple setup for a job, but it performs great. No forget that, amazing. The eases are so natural.
The key addition that I notice is that you have a Spline Type entry, whereas before it seemed only to work with cubic, which are very limited for dramatic cam moves. There are times when only Beziers will do. I don't remember seeing that back in SC63 when I last used it. And spline interp between uniform and adaptive, very geeky, very geeky indeed.
I'm going to do a second setup that blends between spline tracks. In experiments, this is so seemless with SC77 as to be almost illegal. It should hurt to do this stuff, but it doesn't.
The other features are fantastic also. Being able to hide the path spline is important, love that. I still can't keep in mind what all the settings are.
I love this rig!

Blending from spline-track to spline-track done. I've never had such an easy time with a branching path.
Here's the situation, and it's usually a pain:
(1) Camera needs to get to a certain point while keeping a fast-moving hero object in frame.
(2) Camera needs to then rotate around the hero object as a kind of end-pad hold.
Sounds specific, but I've had to do it a lot. With SC77 you just set up two splines and the blend is almost done for you!
And then there's the blending from target to target. You can set up the degree of linearity/lag of the blend! Wow! In my experience moving targets around means you get hard 'slams' on your camera's B rotation, but not with this.
I've barely scratched the surface and I'm hooked!*
*My only complaint is the usual Xpresso priority lag. You have to keep clicking to get the history up to date to see your actual framing.

Thanks for your (and all otherss) nice words :) Yes it is very fast to work with esp when you get into it.
I will one day go throu the xpresso priorities. When starting this project I wasn't really awere of it. By pure luck it worked anyway....
Cheers
