I'm tempted, but put off by the bugs that people are experiencing with this piece of software.

This is not good news...may indicate Painter may get discontinued.

That's highly unlikely, el_diablo.
Painter IX was released nearly a year ago in September 2004 (as I recall). It's not at all unusual for a software company to have promotions like this one (which I believe is time limited and ends in October 2005) when a product has been on the market for a while.
Also, it more than likely indicates Corel is working on the next version of Painter.
I think it's good news in any case.
Cheers!

Corel Painter is definitely not being discontinued! Painter is actually quite healthy and the team has been extremely busy since the version IX release. In fact, we will be announcing a Corel Painter IX 9.1 Update this week. It will be a free download for all Painter IX customers.
As for the sale, it is more likely related to the buying season (the summer months tend to be slower) than anything else. Painter X will not be out until 2006. I hope this answers your questions!
From Rick Champagne, the man at Corel.

Oh, this is great news. Still on Painter 8 over here. I've been holding off since I thought the upgrade price was a bit high (imo, of course). With the sale price, that's more like it. So, cool!
