I am a complete newbie to the entire 3D scene so please bear with me on this one.
I've modeled my first object using the tutorials found off these forums and I've managed to get something I like.
Now come the time for me to learn how to render my scene. As of now, I only have two pieces of the car model I'm trying to build: the front bumper and the hood.
I've set them up into a somewhat interesting display. I've added a floor and tried messing with some of the attributes to get a glossy look to it all. The following image is what I've got now:

I've also highlighted the errors for you on the second image.

I'm rendering the scene using "maya software."
I've also tried using "mental ray." I also get the same results, only thing is it takes longer to render and looks slightly better in quality.

I'm trying to get this image to look kinda like this:

I edited this image using photoshop.
I notice that when I make the hood render with just one side, the shadow seems to render just fine--seen in the image above. The other thing that I'd like to fix is the reflection on the floor; I'd like it to render with the shadows also.
Right now, the floor reflection looks like it's just getting it's information straight off the models themselves, and not inputing the light properties.
How do I go about fixing these issues?

Here are a coulpe of things you might look into:
- The shadow on the bumper looks off because the reflectivity on the bumper is high and reflecting the underside of the hood.
- The bumper highlight in reflection off the floor is brighter than the direct view of the bumper (if that was the issue), because it looks like a point light is inbetween the bumper and the floor...you might try different locations.

Hope this helps
