View Full Version : Make Editable is not working?? (Please help!)

Hi,

I hope someone can help me! :) In frustration, I think I have pulled out almost enough hair from the top of my head to stuff a small couch pillow.

I just downloaded the version 9 Demo of C4D. Everything is freshly unpacked. (I checked; there is no problem with the downloaded demo.) But there is a problem with my continued sanity! Haha.. Here's what's happening:

I place any object on the stage, such as a cube. Then press C to make it editable. So far, so good... But then something weird happens. As soon as I press C and make the cube into an editable object, the 1, 2, 3 (etc) movement hot keys stop working. Also, even though I set the mode to polygon select (etc.), I cannot select any of the polygons from the editable cube! Everything seems fine, but when I click a polygon, it selects for just a moment until I release the mouse button. As soon as the cube becomes editable I lose the ability to select, scale, move, rotate, the object or the stage. If I click the background to unselect the editable cube, all the hot keys and functionality work again. If the editable cube is selected, nothing works.

Why?? :D

There is no way to model in C4D if selecting/editing (etc.) will not work when I make an object editable.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem? As I said, everything is freshly unpacked in the Demo. Nothing has been changed. Please help. Save the rest of my hair!

Sounds very wierd.

Try useing software shading. Most of these seldom unexplainable probs come frome false OGL driver
(Menu/Edit/Preferences -> Viewport -> Options)

If this doesn't help download a new copy of the demo and reinstall it.
It might happen that something went wrong duing d/l or installation.

PS: I once had a keyboard where the Strg key was sometimes locked. That
had nearly the same effect

Hi Sneaker,

Thanks for answering me so quickly! Trying your suggestion, I set software shading mode, and also redownloaded the demo. Unfortunately neither stopped the problem from happening.

It is really weird... Everything works fine. As soon as I press "C" and make the cube (etc.) editable, I lose the use of several moving hot keys such as 1, 2, 3. I cannot scale, rotate the new cube. If I put polygon selection mode on, the polygons highlite as I pass my cursor over them, but when I click to select one, it does nothing. And the weirdest thing of all, when I choose a selection mode like polygon, whatever I do on the stage (with my left mouse button pressed) only moves around some sort of axis that was at the center of the new editable cube. If I put scale, rotate, or the Object Axis Tool on, nothing seems to happen when I click and drag, but if I switch back to ploygon select, that axis is way off somewhere where I dragged it while trying to use the other tools. I don't believe that axis is the object axis, since the Object Axis Tool show the axis as still being dead center.

It's like something is overriding my ability to edit and transform the cube once I press "C".

As I said, if I take the focus away from the cube, all the functionality in C4D returns as normal. I have even downloaded samples from the net (the sausage man one), and this problem exists in there too.

Totally confused....

P.S. I just noticed something... If I place another object on the stage and make it editable, it is the exact same axis that moves (there's only one). It's not an object axis. It's an axis that initially appears at the 0,0,0 position on the stage.

Just tested it on my one and I see no problem.
Maybe its your system. all hot keys working fine after creating a cube & pressing C.
Maybe you are using an Apple, who knows ;)
