benthomas2222 07-07-2005, 04:31 PM i see lot of people create a clay effect when showing the modeling they produce, is this a dirtmap? anyone now how to do clay?

its funny i ran into this thread,cause the other day i was trying to figure this out to.I basicaly used a dirt map i downloaded from xsi base or highend 3d can recall acurately where igot it from.
But it sort off give the effect you looking for,try it youll see.

Usually the XSI guys I've seen around here display HDRI or regular lit Lambert material with a pale colour or light grey, and rim lighting (the red/blue deal).
That's pretty much it. Isn't a dirtmap, that would make it a bitch with unmapped items anyways hehe. What you are liking is probably the HDRI tonals or possibly Lambertness of the clay material.

You can find the dirtmap shader here http://www.xsibase.com/tools/shaders.php?detail=332 , it comes with some quick tutorials of how to use it and it should give you the ambient occlusion look you are after.
