I want to create a floating panel in which to house various things like my command history, tool pipe etc... i have sort of lucked one by doing a macro but i am not sure if i am doing it right.
i seem to remember seeing a video tutorial explaining how to do this, along with other UI related issues but I can't see any bookmarks for anything like it so.. does anyone know what i am talking about from this scant info?
much appreciated if someone could remember

all the beast

Goto this website here: www.vertexmonkey.com

They have some excellent tutorials there. I think I recall some tutorials on that site about setting up UI. I'm new to learning this program too.

Also, take a look at my other post in the other section you started about manuals for Modo. Best of luck to you in learning this program. Just curious, how do you find learning this program compared to any others that you've seen? I am asking this to compare notes with my own experience.<g>

In all honesty? Initially I didn't like it at all... But after getting over the hump of the learning curve I am starting to get addicted to it over all other modellers. In large part because it has a fabulous tool set... [the only thing i would like to see that is absent would be virtual mirror like in Wings]... The configurability is generally awseome [apart from the few bugs i have experienced with backdrops etc]... And I love the tool pipe... The ability to save presets from your tools is very well implemented in this program.
Yes, Modo is officially well sexy to me now and i would like to think I will buy it some time soon..

Yes, I have seen those.. thanks for pointing them out though.
The ones i am thinking of show you how to make your own custom floating pallettes... I still can't see reference to this in the user manual...

If you are a "demo" user (like me) then open Modo , go to the
help menu >documentation>user guide and click , this causes to open a .pdf file (same files included into the "PDF" directory) , a specific chapter on "customizing Modo UI"is provided there.(open the PDF>bookmarks tab for having chapters available)
