I've been wanting to do particle effects but I have no idea where to start. I've read the documentation that comes with Max r4 but they might as well say PRESS THE MAGIC BUTTON AND WATCH THE DOTS DANCE!!!

Being broke right now, is there any CHEAP resources for particles in 3D Studio Max r4.x?

My limit right now is $20. Feel free to post expensive options but those won't be helpful for a couple of months.

Dig a little deeper...maybe check the net for tutorials. I've been able to do quite a bit with the standard MAX particles. There is also a ton of freeware plugins out there that could assist you. If I knew more of what you wanted to do, I could surely assist, and I think everyone one on this board would help out as well....

Is rather good, and Brandon Davis is going to put up a particle site soon as well. Probaby the two names that are thought of in sync with the words "max particles".

No wait -- the phrase "really good with max particles" ;)

Hey guys, would any of you be interested in some tutorials or video tutorials explaining particles in general?

I'm going to focus some more time into writing tuts again soon, and I'm delving into the idea of video tuts too, and I know in the past I've covered a lot of medium to slightly advanced topics, although would anyone be interested in some more bare bones stuff on just explaining the concept behind max particles and how they work and how 'tame' them to do what you want?

I could do a few quick ones just explaining spacewarps and a kind of particles 101 tut if it gets enough interest.

Let me know,

Allan.

*shucks* okay I'll write a few up, I'm hoping to get into doing some more advanced topics soon like twisters, asteroids and other clich`e hollywood effects, especially with video tuts since they're a lot easier to explain some of the trickier aspects.

Writing a maya tut this weekend, but after that I'll get onto some more max ones :) I'll keep you guys posted.

Allan.

Hey Amckay

I know it's probably very dumb, but the way the planets exploded in MIB 2 was pretty cool, maybe you can cover something like that ?

Thanx for all your work, later
