View Full Version : How to arrange to vertexes?
Anton Andriesh 10-23-2002, 10:28 PM How can I arrange objects to other object's vertex points? For example how can I make a cube with spheres in his 8 corners?
Thank you!

Just use snap set to vertice and pull your objects over to align to the vertice you want to use. :)
...sorry .. that's not totally reliable
Use align to and use the axis and centre/maximun/minimum etc dialogues and it works ok.

You can use Scatter also(create compound Objects)

..and if you want to align to all vertices on your object you can use a particle system such as PArray. :)

My task is to place an Omni in every vertex of a sphere, that's why I cant's use Scatter as well as Snaps (it would be awful in case of a sphere with 100 vertices:) )
Thanks.

See if this will do what you want

If not I think Atomiser allows you to use lights with particle sytems if you have access to it. :)

Lightmesh? :) Thank you!
But... there can be a lot of psosibilities. Lightmesh works only with lightning, but it would be nice to apply this type of arrance to particles, geometry, helpers (gizmos for example), ...

if you would do it manualy, ATTACHMENT CONTROLER does it.

ok, i found a better way, it places [objects/lights/particles/etc.] in random manner (not exactly random, looks like) :
make an sphere
turn it to an editable mesh
select all edges
in command panel find create shape from edges & press it
delete the old mesh (spline remains)
now pick your subject
press shift - i (in max5) for poping up spacing tool (on max 4 click on icon)
pick splines cage as path, increase the # of duplication to how many you need!

Pretty easy to do with MAXScript. Here's a simple little tool that will allow you to place a copy of one object at every vertex of another object, with some options. The first button lets you pick the object to distribute, the second lets you pick the target object. You can use it to distribute geometry, lights, cameras, helpers...whatever you want, really. I think all of the options are self-explanatory.
There may have already been a script for this, but I felt like writing one anyway :)
