I'm about to finish up this car so I'd like to hear what chassis part/colour combination you think would be the coolest
basically have a look at the front,hood,closed/open top, wheels and seat, chassis colours etc
a thank you goes to mushroomgod and vovik3d for providing me some visual references,I did what I could within this limited timeframe - cheers! :)
I've thrown in some background for a quick comp

The white one looks the most photoreal, the blue and orange have too many tells for "fakeness" to me. Either way, phenominal work LNT.

Nice work...I personally like the white the best...if I were you I would try making the wing, hood, and front splitter carbon-fiber...it would add a lot to the model...keep the red seats...as far as the modelling goes the only thing that bothers me is the overall stance of the car...it looks like it's sitting lower on the rear-wheels instead of the front...but great job...looking forward to seeing your final renders...

The white one is the best. The body kit is most believeable. Play with the colors. I'd also like to see the back as well as the wireframe.

White / Yellow! (on par)
Grrrreat work!
It seems that the white one is a little bit too dark at the sides for a white car. (provided, if it should be a pure white car)
Maybe it is the reflection respectively the environment which is a bit dark and is too much reflected within the car?
WarpedMinds: There is no need for a driver. Itīs KITT 3. But they covered the red "light" in front of the bonnet. And donīt tell anyone! Pssssh! ;)

White and yellow, the other two have too strange and faked reflections.

Hi, as i think LuciferNT is using LW. Am i right?
For me the white one, it is the most photoreal and fits best with the background image!
To LNT: God to see you are not only modeling, you are also god with rendering and compositing!
Nice to see you here! :-)

Ah, the White one! I'd like to see the grey version with the simpler hood that the white one has. Lose the "top-up" configurations completely. The car, and accordingly, your model only look stunning whilst topless. The "colored" ones look less real because the colors seem too saturated, especially the blue. Try lowering the choma values a bit and show us some more renders. The photo environment really works well in this case.
 I really like this car / model and the body mods look very well done. Veilside perhaps?

i like the yellow one my self, looks sporty
Hi, as i think LuciferNT is using LW. Am i right?
- totally!! http://www.aoikenso.net/ap/cg/biggrin.gif (the3dwiz:your alias??)
lighting is lightwave GI,no lights
WarpedMinds - there's no 18wheeler in the scene,I assure you it's safe :)
xyn - no background pics that would fit your harvester (yet) ;)
Nitro - thanks man, check your PM
O.Martin - a black version?that's a thought! btw, your avatar induces a very nasty grin on my face if I look at it for more than a second
MaTibay520 - I'll try to do a back view next time I render,as for the wireframes - I did post an early screenshot HERE (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23012&pagenumber=3),I might add some more later
now,regarding the car paint comments...
I am surprised to see such contrasting oppinions/tastes
first of all, they all reflect the same thing!
it's the reflection shading that varies (along with other texture channels)
the midnight blue colour does exist and I'd bet the photo of the real car would look just as unnatural,it's a real funky paintjob - if anyone wants to see it,I can dig it up from my reference dir - it has that kind of velvet/silk diffuse falloff whilst being very reflective.not so easy to reproduce though
the orange paint was a bit rushed though as I only wanted to add a new colour to the fourth chassis configuration

"it's the reflection shading that varies (along with other texture channels) "
This is why I liked the first one. ;)
Again very very nice work...

U need to tweak that blue one! It doesn't look real.
Also, i'd add a bit DOF, focussed on the front of the car. It'll help fitting on the backgr.

Quick question:
are the front headlights texturemaps or actual geometry?
I am modelling the same car and the headlights are giving me grief at the moment.
headlights are 100% geometry,it wouldnt work any other way
they can be very tricky to model,I agree but if you find the right approach it's doable
I modeled all three lamps joined together (1 piece),only the casing they're placed inside is separate
try modeling it from the middle one first (basically a modified tube) and then extrude the ones on either side
good luck

Any chance you might do a short tutorial on how you did the compositing? Or do you know of a good tutorial about it?

what program are you using ayreon,if it's lightwave (or has equivalent GI/radiosity) I wrote a tutorial that explains just the technique
it's on my site (http://www.3dluvr.com/lnt/) - tutorials

i would say.. you should tire stain those white lines out front of the house...
if i had a car like that i probably wouldn't be too gentle with the accelerator...
here is a wonderful site, watch some of the tutorials, in my opinion, he really teaches you how to add that touch of reality. anyway.. check it out :)

doh doh doh, i always do that!
i always make some suggestion without commenting on the art work,
Spectacular work!... i am a fan of Silver or White.. but only white when it fits the car...
but that is just... incredible work!

Very nice images....just a minor comment about the body at the edge of the wheelwells... this edge seems a bit sharp, though that's purely based on my impression of the image itself, and not on experience with reference. Still, If I were you I'd soften or relax the geometry around that edge, giving it a more molded appearence. Oh yeah... I like the grey paint job too...very nice.
P.S....Any reason why the reflection across the door and body doesn't seem to be too contiguous? It seems the horizon reflections there should continue across the body like it does the door. The way it is now it almost looks as if there are different materials on the door and body.

i think the white looks most photo real but the grey is my favorite. i would remove the front bumper wing and use the standard hood. a cool animation would be the bmw pulling out of the garage and doing a small spin out to a left turn,(our right).

Boyd, not sure I understand exactly what you're saying, perhaps you should have a look at some reference pics cos in my oppinion the real egde is probably even sharper
Ayreon,good luck.
I might add some really freaky car paint renders later on,depending on my free time

White lets it fit into the photo a little nicer. Too much colours and it might look fake like in the original coloured ones I think.
Looks kewl though. Still seems a little computery compared to the rest of the image though. Im the kinda person that would go in with photoshop and manually paint in little darker spots for the shadows close to the wheels nstuff though ;)
Maybe the car could use some slight more reflection of the surroundings on the hood.

looks really good. only thing I can see is the wheels. the rear and the front wheels are both exactly pointing straight up... this owuld never happen where both wheels are pointing up and the H on the center cap be perfectly straight.. just rotate one so that its a little bit different... just something tha was bothering me but its an excellent model
