If i understand correctly you want an animated dry to wet effect... but you may have meant cracks/fractures growing.

realflow has a wet effect...

and i seem to recall mental ray has a wet/dry materia.

fair enough, my misunderstanding.... how about you use an animated displacement map, or an animated map of some variety, or do you require the geometry to actualy facture.. ie so light can pass through the cracks.

oh displacement map B/W animate is a good idea, but how can I create a fracture map? is there a procedural map that can reacreate a fracture effect? or i paint in photoshop frame by frame this effect?

i think it would depend on how much control you want over the shape and growth of the fracture... i'd be inclined to paint it, but you may have a huge space to cover which could take ages...

as far as procedural maps go i can't think of anything off hand, but it might be worth looking around for stuff such as lightning and seeing if there is away to implement that type of visual in to a displacement map..

good luck with it all.
