View Full Version : Switching/resizing comps from SD to fit HD comps

We are going to re-render alot of old after fx work made in sd resolution to HD, where the original material is HD downscaled to fit SD project comp. including things like animated text and logos.

When changing the comp rez in after effects it only expands the canvas of the project, it does not "auto" adjust the original comp to fit the new one.

Is there a script/plugin or some other workaround to "auto resize" comps in after fx to make all layers fit a new comp, including keyframed animation.

any help on the subject is highly appreciated :)

Basically: No. There are some scripts that can adjust keyframes for basic parameters such as position, but in context of scaling up a SD comp to HD this is a bit pointless and they were never meant for that. Anyway, you have a different frame and pixel ratio and all your effects need adjusting anyways which would require a lot of manual intervention. Text layers can't be scripted at all, since there is no way to acces data such as font sizes, kerning etc. efficiently via scripts. You have to face it: This is going to be a tedious largely manual task.

Thanks for the answer Mylenium!

Better look into other solutions then :)

try this go to file>run script>choose file choose the ScaleComp.jsx from the window that pops up. I've had some success with this scaling some 720 X 480 DV with a Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1.2 to 1440 X 960 to replace the Background with a higher res render from Maya for a zoom that was needed. Obviously most of the assets were much higher res.

and look at this
