I know it's gonna be too much... but I'll give it a shot anyway!
Thing is, if were to do this in 2D, i could get it done on time... but I don't know about this whole "3D" thing I'm trying to learn ;)

Thanks Remi, i'll make sure to ask you questions all the time :D

Thanks Claudio!

Well.... yeah. here it is. My first ever pose test in Maya. It's much harder than I thought...I do have a couple of questions too. Is there a way to change your stepped keys back into curves? Or do you have to do that manually by setting keys?

Obviously, any help would be great at this stage!! so Please crit!

Thanks !!

select all your keys and click on spline icon on top of the graph editor.

Thanks! you caught me before I could post that I figured it out. :)

Another thing... how should I keep their hands on the surface? Without having them pass right through all the time?

If someone could help... that'd be great!

Thanks

You'll have to use IK in order to get hands to stay still while the body moves. You can switch between IK and FK with that generi rig easily. Other than that, it's just a matter of carefully positioning the fingers and palm so it looks natural :hmm:

Thanks Tuna!

Ummm... I have another genereal question... is there a way of selecting generi's spine and edit the whole in the graph editor?? In the sense that he has three rings, and selecting all three you get three graph editor groups... I'm wondering if theres a way of having only one curve to edit the three rings.. Probably not though.

thanks !

the three nurbs curves will each have their own set of curves in the GE. You can select all three though and edit them all that way. look forward to seeing your progress:)

Ok, here's a little, and I mean a little more work... This 3D thing is pretty different from 2D !!:D

I know I have to work out tonnes of problems, but I thought I'd put it up just to see what you guys have to say...

I don''t konw if I'll be able to work too much more on this, but I'm gonna try. You know.. deadlines... crazy deadlines... and parties :scream:

Thanks for checking it out!!

I really like where your going with this... but make sure you get them key poses down and try not to let the computer influence how your arch’s turn out.

Thanks Wabit!

So... are you suggesting that I should have a more "stop motion" approach?? It makes sense I guess. I think that would make it more 2D-ish... I'll try that !

Ok... here's an update... I tried to do lipsync, I didn't work the curves on it yet though... still very poppy. Please throw crits if you have time :D

I don't know how much I can do on this still, but I'll try my best; I've learned a rediculous amount of stuff though.

Oh, one thing, I guess. Is there a way of getting rid of all the keyrames that are laid onto a non-animated part of the character ? Instead of going to the graph editor and deleting all of the little dots on the line, is there a quicker way to "clean" the curves??

Thanks!

Ok... here's a question I thought of... Was it stupid of me to do the whole thing in IK? Rather than switching from IK and FK... ?? The arms throughout are IK... would it have been simpler to have done the acting part in fk than in ik?

Thanks alot!

Hey I don't think there's really anything wrong with using IK throughout, but using IK does mean your arcs and poses will need more keys and general cleaning up. For instance you really have to set a lot of keys to get those arcs working, also watch out that in a few areas of the animation, the arms pop quite a bit.

It's comming along great though! Just make sure you spend time setting those keys :)

SO, I guess here it is :D

This has been a tremendous learning experience. I really wanted to see if i caould manage to port ver a few 2D principles over to 3D... Which is why it's over animated :D
(and not where I'd like it to be, but "done" nonetheless)

I think having this as a kind of assignment with a deadline gives it a sense of urgency... Which in turn made me work on it :)

Thanks to everyone for your help, it's been greatly welcome !

I can't wait for the next one now... and I'll see if I can get Curtis to do up another crazy flash one too ;)

Thanks again!!
